So, tell us a little about yourselves

I thought I would introduce myself, my name is Al, I am in my '60's and I have been building a copy of a Super 7 the last few years.

I dont recall anymore what prompted me to start this build, I suspect it was the article I read in Car and Driver, so then I bought Champions book as well as the Haynes book Chris wrote, the rest is history.

Anyway I started by building the Haynes roadster frame and when I couldn't find the donor car easily I just went out on my own and started building what was easily obtainable for me.

I started by modifying the frame for a live axle, in fact a Ford Explorer 8.8.

The car is using a 3.4 chevy crate motor, something my brother talked me into, I suspect it was to get rid of the one he had sittiing at his dealership, well the dealership where he works.

It also has '93 Sonoma WC 5 speed transmission, Mustang II spindles and rack.

The car is not finished yet but I am getting closer to the end part of the project.

I am retired and surprisingly I never seem to have enough time to get it done as fast as I would like, a complaint of retired people in general, maybe we nap a lot and dont realize it.

Either way I am having fun and look forward to contributing the forum.

Clicking on the link below should link with build photos.

I should quickly clarify that I didn't build the Daytona coupe, it is a friends build where I took pictures of his progress after he asked if I wanted to post them on my Webshots site.

I might add he did a great job, the rest of the stuff on there such as the garden shed, the AMX, the copy of the 7 build are mine.

Hello all,

My name is Andy, I'm a software developer by trade and a fledgeling gear head. I was introduced to sevens about 2 years ago looking for engines to rebuild. I had been wanting to learn how to rebuild an engine and started with the air cooled vw engines of yesteryear since they are fairly simple and easy to come by. This lead to rail buggies which in turn lead to kit cars and finally SEVENS! I was awestruck immediately. It's been a love affair since then. I've read Ron Champions Haynes roadster book and hope to build my own some day.

I apologize if I ask any "novice" questions but I love to hear people opinions and whatnot. I assure you I have plenty of questions. I'm psyched to find a US based seven forum.

Nice to meet you all!

The name's Darrell Wilhelm (you all may call me DW), I'm a lifelong auto enthusiast who works for a large wrecking yard (lots of access to parts!), is a part-time art photographer, and was bitten by the Se7en bug after reading "How To Build a Cheap Sports Car" by Keith Tanner and "Build Your Own Sports Car" by Chris Gibbs. I have not yet read Ron Champion's book, nor have I been able to find it, but the secondhand stores in my area carry a lot of British items including books, so one will likely turn up sooner or later. Lotus 11 replicas also carry a lot of interest, and that may be a better option since I am a great deal larger than Colin Chapman was. ;)

I initially thought of building a Se7en with a rear-mounted transaxle, but the weight and packaging issues, as well as the cost of the Hewland transaxle used by Westfield and recommended to me, are starting to dissuade me from it. A normal Locost-type car, an 11 replica, a replica of a 6, or the Mk I, II or III Loti, all with traditional esthetics, are starting to seem more appealing.

Glad to be a member of this forum, and I'm still finding my way around.

At work I use a fairly antiquated language called Appx, based off of Speed2. I have also done some VB and .net applications as well. Trying to teach myself web development as I think the industry will be heading in the web based direction relatively soon.

Angel here. I am a hot rod and restoration shop owner (10 Motorworks) in Hialeah Florida. I am a commercial artist by trade turned wrench and tuner by passion. Muscle cars have been my life as well as short drag racing stint (lack of $$$). A couple of years ago we built a Factory Five Cobra at the shop for client and since have had the bug to carve cones and corners.

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for British cars and was fortunate enough to get behind the wheel of a genuine Lotus seven. The nimbleness, responsiveness and ability to stick through the corners was unreal. Since then I have been hooked on them and have chosen to build Seven replicas at our shop. Look for us to have three available before the end of this year. Two road cars and one track monster.

Asylum67:

What species of se7en are you building (Stalker, Westfield, etc.?).

Mike

I have met with Dick Brink at BirkinUSA and am working on some details about becoming a dealer although if I can make a deal with Tom at Manik about bringing in some Westfield SEights or Sport Turbos I may go that route.

Good luck! Either would be great tho I am partial to Birkins.

Fyin Miata does a nice version of a turbo'd Westfield, have you seen their site?

Whatever you build, I guess it is a given that it will feature a "flux-capacitor", in view of your avatar.

Thanks.

I loose more cars and their drivers just after they hit 88mph though!
