FE07 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I have some rusting on the metal piping in my cooling system so I took it apart to have it sandblasted and powdercoated. I saw however on the inside of the tubing some oxidation and thought maybe it would be better to replace this and start fresh. They have rolled, raised lips on both ends. Has anyone ever looked into having replacements made or bought new ones? Thanks for the replies. Jim
IamScotticus Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) Replace. What are the lengths and diameters? Edited April 28 by IamScotticus
FE07 Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 Straight piece is 9 1/4" in length. Curved 26 1/2" in length. Both are 1.26" internal diameter and 1.39" external. Where would one go to have these made?? Thanks, Jim

MV8 Posted April 28 Posted April 28 A shop that does custom mandrel bending and preferrably can also bead the ends and order 1-1/2 tubing in 304 stainless or aluminum. You can buy bends but the legs will not be the right length. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/afc-88090125#overview
EdWills Posted April 29 Posted April 29 I never realized that Caterham went to the extra length of rolling the ends of the water pipes, but it does provide a better method of sealing of course. Lotus merely used pipe without any rolled ends (cheaper to produce) and relied on the wire clips to hold the rubber hose on to the pipe. I still have the original 1968 metal piping, some rust build-up evident inside, but heavy gauge mild steel and no leaks or weak spots. I think that Mick Jagger has rolled, raised lips, but not sure if they are at both ends? W
