I have a set of Birken mounts for Zetec motor.

I bought all the Birkin parts my friend Steve did not need for his Electric Birkin project.

I'd compare the mounts to my Kent engine but it is in a different city right now.  If the OP finds out that Kent and Zetec mounts are interchangeable, I'm open to offers for my Birkin/Zetec mounts.  My Kent-buyer has a car that is unlikely to use Birkin mounts.

Would you consider selling those Zetec mounts? Or would your Kent buyer sell those mounts?

I sent you a message via USA7s.

@3Ducs I just spoke with Tom Carlin at Birkin.

He says Crossflow mounts were not like the Zetec mounts.  They were more like Caterham type bolted to the frame top.  However, Tom doesn't recommend doing this on your chassis.   He recommends building mounts using the horizontal prongs in place.

Tom says customers can call him for Birkin support.

Thank-you! I will try contacting him again. He didn't have Kent mounts in stock, recommended I build my own?

Like my photos show.

I am aware of that. I'm going to hold off on buying those mounts from you, it's going to be a few months before I get the engine, I'll try to get the proper mounts in the meantime.

Tom, like everyone else, is cautious on answering the phone.  Leave him a message and he will return your call.  He uses Google fi, whatever that is.

it appears your chassis was not built for Crossflow mounting.

If the pesky oil pump van be worked around, then fabing up mounts to the existing Zetec chassis mounts is the way.

Tom has an account here but he doesn't get on much.

When I transported my ex-Birkin Zetec stuff from Steve's place to the shop in Isanti we kept the engine upright.  Steve and I stabilized it with its Birkin engine mounts and couple of  2x6s, then put four ratchet straps on it.

Any chance these are for sale? I'm having no luck finding mounts to fit the Kent engine I'm getting, these look close to what I need.

It took a little research but I believe this is the car owned by Bob and Mary Kansa out of Ohio. Forum name: 'southwind25'. I know when I saw it they kept it REALLY clean:

I just read their posts about the car, for the miles it's done it is very clean! Now if I can just get the Birkin motor mounts! The engine is coming along very well, it's getting all the right parts and machine shop work, meticulously built. Chris De Minco is building the engine.

Unless your intake manifold is the exact same item used by Birkin to use with Birkin mounts, you may find the angles to not place the air filters in the bonnet hole squarely.  So, you may get Birkin mouts, but the intake angle is wrong.  Therefore I think fabbing mounts with the engine in situ is your best option.  Remember to allow height for setting. If you are using a Birkin intake, or know that the intake is the same angle, or Birkin intakes are a common angle, you might get lucky there.

All a welder has to do is cut the parts, tack them together on the car then do the full beads on a work table.  Prime and paint. Overbuild it a little for peace of mind.

One more thing,  pay attention to pinion angle, try to get it close.

Do you still have those mounts? They look like what I need. If you have them I'd like to buy them.

I'm starting to lose track.  I think I have the mounts.  All Zetec motors are not the same.  The motor that was held by these mounts in the Birkin came out of a 1995 Ford Contour.

If you have them I'd like to take a chance on being able to use them as is or being able to modify to fit. If you can find them and want to sell them please let me know. Thanks!

Hello Pethier, any luck finding those engine mounts? We had a little snow here today but the weather guessers are saying it'll be warming up pretty soon, I'll be getting back to the car very soon.

I have located what I assume are the original Caterham factory mounts for my 1700 Super Sprint (which I assume is the same as other Kent motors). They may or may not be the same as a Lotus mount.

In any case, they have been sold with my 1700 Super Sprint engine el al, pending delivery.

You will note that the engine interface is quite unlike the Zetec

Did the buyer of your 1700 engine put it in a Birkin? If not do you think he might still have these mounts? These would probably be the mounts I need to put my 1700 engine in my Birkin.

Still have not again located the mounts.  They must be around here someplace...  Again, these mounts, for when I find them again, are for an early Zetec 2000cc in a Birkin.

The buyer of my 1700 did not put the engine in a Birkin.  That engine/5-speed is bound for a Lotus 7.  Whether the mounts I supplied with the engine/5-speed will fit the Lotus without a lot of work has yet to be known to me.  I am absolutely certain they will not fit a Birkin.  Birkin uses one horizontal bolt at the chassis, which seems a bit unusual to me.
