slomove
riding in a lot of different seven's is going to be a little hard since it's not like I can just mosey on over to a dealership and take a test drive. heh. so.... anyone want to give me a ride sometime? :-D That should not be hard, provided you are willing to spend maybe 50 miles to get there. From your place the next owners I know of are probably in the SD area (Brad can help) or, if you care to come to Pasadena I always look for an excuse to drive out to the mountains. Otherwise there are Seveneers I know in Redondo Beach, Victorville, Thousand Oaks, Eagle Rock, Tujunga and very soon in Culver City. Each of them different..... aznatama
My mom's condo happens to be in Pasadena, and I do visit quite often. I'm going to certainly try to make it to cars and coffee too... although it is quite early. I guess I'll ride my bike there, which means time to give her a wash. heh. Thanks everyone! I think the best part about a hobby/passion is having people to share it with, and so far this has been turning out to be a great start.
WestTexasS2K
Kevin is going to be at the Ultimate Track Car challenge on June 6 7 8 at Buttonwillows. He can give you a ride in our supercharged S2k and you can look it over sit in and ask questions. I believe Buttonwillows is near Bakersfield CA but not sure on that. The Cali guys will set me straight if I am wrong. I can give you a phone # to catch Kevin at if you are interested. That car is a 381 rwhp car so it is a bit of fun. aznatama
I'll be out of town starting that weekend for two weeks due to annual training since I'm in the USMC reserves, so can't make the track day. oh well. Sure sounds like fun though.
Locost 5.0
WestTexasS2K, If that ride at Buttonwillow open to other people, I'd love to check your car out. I'm sure it would encourage me to finish my car! Thanks, Rod
southwind25
:iagree: taking a ride/drive is probably the best answer..Before we bought one, we had the opportunity to ride in a few..it showed us about any of these awesome machines would be great to have. The people here are some of the most generous we have found anywhere..
aznatama
After researching the s2k some more, I am starting to really like it. it's already a 6-sp, drop in a s/c and it'll be ready to go. I like the fact that it's got IRS as well... and from a WRX too, so I'll already be familiar with the geometry and working on it. I've always been biased against honduh's... but I guess I can make an exception for VTEC this time around. hehe. I am a big "spec.-monger" for lack of a better word, and whilst I know all 7's will be fun to drive and fast, I like technical things and am somewhat obsessed with having a solid modern base (ie IRS) even if I'll most likely be fabricating my own parts here and there. roll a 7
AZNATAMA: Hie thee to Britalia Motorsports @ 3001 Red Hill Ave. Building 1 Suite 217 in Costa Mesa 714-432-8482 or 949-842-9198. There you will find a Caterham SV with less than 2000 miles. It has a lot of good stuff on it and the best motor currently available in a 7: the aluminum block 16 valve oversquare 2.3L Duratec. It's light, develops fantastic torque (not a word typically associated with 7s) and a bit of Cosworth magic puts it over the top. The SV model is scarce and the cars trade at a premium because of the extra size, which is said to add about 50 pounds to the car. Much of that is offset by the light duratec up front. On the premise that the car is for sale you should be able to procure a ride/drive from the owner. Don't know if it is within "bike" distance, but it ain't far away. There is an s2k being offered in the "For Sale" section of this website at a significant discount to the cost of a new one, I think. It appears to have very few miles and illustrates that it is a really good idea to try such a car BEFORE you buy. Most of the rabid 7 owners try to reduce the weight of their car rather than add cylinders or forced induction. FI can offer blindingly fast acceleration, sometimes at the expense of driveability/enjoyment. Weight in the front of the car drastically reduces the handling/fun factor in a 7. Drive a few and the IRS may not be as important as you now believe. Fun to drive is why we own and become addicted to these cars.

Sean
...the aluminum block 16 valve oversquare 2.3L Duratec. Minor point: The 2.0 liter Duratec is oversquare, but the 2.3 is not. Both have reputations as great engines, though.
roll a 7
I stand corrected, TYVM. It is also worth noting that the above mentioned Caterham SV HAS an SB100 CA title and is ready to roll with no issues/hassles from the dreaded CA DMV. The SB100 title grants a permanent exemption from smog laws, which some enthusiasts find very useful. SB100 is one of the very best enthusiast laws ever passed in CA. aznatama
Thanks for the heads up, but their site says that the SV is sold, and also out of my price range. The s2k for sale is tempting and definitely a great price, but I don't think I will have funds available until after I sell my truck. Also, the bike I ride is the type w/ a 1.2l engine under me... :-)
Mondo
I could of sworn I read a DMV section about motorcycle engined cars not being allowed in California. But didn't see anything prohibiting it in the actual verbiage of SB100 material... I don't remember the name of the site but it's like google earth and many of us have put ourselves on it. You can see who's around you and it has our emails etc. Someone here will remember the name of it. I just got my S2K but it needs a little more shakedown before I'd say it's representative of the breed. Your welcome to come up to Bako and check it out. rv-4mike
Aznatama, Tried to PM you but for some reason my PMs dont go through. Been having this problem for a while and tried PMing Mazda about it, but.... Catch 22. Anyway, I'm putting together an Ultralite S2K down in San Diego. I can tell you a lot about it. Email me at rv-4mike at cox dot net if you are interested in discussing it. BTW, I'd highly recommend you find a way to scrape up the bucks for Loren's car. At that price its a screaming deal. You couldnt build one for that price and his car is well sorted. Driving Loren's car was what sold me on the Ultralite.
aznatama
I'll definitely shoot you an email prolly tomorrow since I'm about to goto sleep... been a long 12hr workday. as for purchasing a seven... I need to sell my truck first. heh... once I do that, then I can start really looking.

MoPho
OK, still planning on going to Cars and Coffee (assuming I don't sleep through the alarm, ugh) The car is the little bug eyed orange one with a "7" in the grill

aznatama
Didn't see Mr. Orange there... I woke up at 7, got there at about 8. talked to the owner of the Superperformance S1, but that was the only seven in the lot. I'm up in Pasadena now. Gotta pick up mail and feed the cat while my parent's are out of the country. Morgan, where are you located?
