:) So what is the status of your 7 now that winter is here? :)

Well I will start; My clone 7 is hard down for the time being waiting for a new engine again, second engine lasted a total of 60 miles due to loss of oil pressure. Still runs but smokes like crazy and has this knocking sound. What can I say as I rebuilt it myself but did not replace the oil pump as it was working well before the tear down  trying to save money and time. :cuss: :banghead: Now looking at maybe a complete up-grade from a four cylinder to a six cylinder if it will fit without too much in the way of modifications to the frame and trans tunnel for the different trans. Oh well it is suppose to be winter here in SoCal, It’s raining today, :7rain: and the holidays are fast approaching us all so time and money are being diverted from my 7 as I suspect everyone else’s so HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON and maybe Santa's wife will let me get a NEW ENGINE for my 7 before the end of the year and paint and maybe a top to keep the sun off my bald head.

It now sits in the garage with a battery tender keeping the battery in shape, while waiting for the snow, ice and cold weather to go away, which will probably be sometime in March or April. In November, I got the urge to replace the rear suspension rod ends with ones with seals. That's done, and it doesn't need any other work, so it sits and waits for warm weather.

S1 Status, I went on Sunday for a ride. I choked and left the top on, low 40's, runs great in this cool weather. As soon as it snows and gets salt on the road, then I'll stop till it clears up. But I do drive it on decent days in the winter.

In the "alternate universe" of Arizona, winter IS the time when we drive our non-AC cars!

I was under the impression that all 7's were air-conditioned :D you know what I mean.

Now I am wishing I could at least go for a ride in mine :7drive:

My Birkin is in a storage unit waiting for spring. I'll get it out a few times over the winter when the roads are clear and it's above 25* but otherwise it will be put away until late March.

Today would not be considered a good Seven day - the high here was -11* F. Top or no top....... that's a bit chilly. My Mini with it's full climate control worked well today though.

Other than fiddling with spring rates and a couple of other minor things, the car is pretty much where I want it. So as long as it's dry, I'll drive it all winter. Some days are a bit more "refreshing" than others. :D

well i took my wife for a quick ride the other day--it was just above 40--she agreed that it was "refreshing" and held her hands above the exhaust system at the intersections. She also concluded that i was "nuts"--whatever that means!! So next time, I'll wait until its 45!!

Mine is STILL on its jackstands (Careful what you ask for ... as the Chinese say). BUT, I am in the throes of the LAST significant re-engineering/re-design/implementation effort that the car (IMHO) needs to be dragged into the 21st century as something that the good Mr. Chapman would admire - it's steering system. And boy is it a challenge. I sure am glad there are all those Dirt Track specialty shops out there with their collective insights into how cars work.

My Caterham is sleeping peacefully in the heated shop, protected from the -19F temps we are having lately.

I will start on this winter's modifications after the holidays. Mag chloride and sand/salt have been spread on the streets so it will not be on the road for awhile.

I moved mine from the shop to my garage at home. I still have not replaced the blown head gasket. Before spring I hope to put some higher lift cams in, install an addational radiator under the rear of the 7 so that I can do a track day.

lowflyer, please post if you go up to the Saturday PM car show on Indian Bend, in Scottsdale. I'm there sometimes in late Jan. through Mar. W/O the 7 though.

Gary

Hi Gary,

I used to live about a mile from this cruise night. It's certainly grown since the "early days".

I'd be happy to meet you up there, if you tell me when you're going to be here. The cars normally start showing up as early as 3:00 PM. The normal turnout is around 500 cars. With the exotic car auctions scheduled for January, the unusual/exotic/expensive cars will start showing up in droves too.

I have my wife convinced that going to the McDonald's cruise night and having a Big Mac is "dinner and a show".

My wife and I went out early on Friday for a blat to our favorite breakfast spot. The temp was about 45 and at highway speeds the "air conditioner was working great".

I grew up in eastern Pennsylvania, so I can easily relate to the comments about putting the car away for the winter. Sadly the only place I know of that has ideal weather most of the time is Hawaii.
