11Budlite Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 All, Does anybody have any previous experience or recommendations for shipping a se7en type car in a disassembled state. This would be a bare chassis with engine, gearbox, suspension, bodywork, etc, all apart. Obviously all the smaller loose parts would have to be wrapped and boxed up, but would it be possible to strap the frame to an oversize pallet (is there one big enough for a se7en chassis?) as well as the other heavy parts? I'm also looking for freight companies that would be safe, secure, and relatively economical. Time is not a factor. Distance would be about 3000 miles. I'm checking for a friend.... Bruce :7drive:

Suggest you go to https://www.freightquote.com/Public/Home/FQ/Home.aspx to make contact and get suggestions. They will get you a number of shippers and prices to choose from for your adventure. You're right about gathering up the bits and boxing them; the engine/trans need to be drained and strapped to a pallet. The frame can be strapped to another regular pallet as well. If you can find a double pallet, so much the better. Buy the insurance available...it's called Inland Marine Trip Transit insurance. Good luck. HTH
sparecr Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 I shipped my old Stalker frame back to Dennis for a few repairs and updates. Double pallet, shipping arranged through frieght quote... Do buy the insurance had a shipper loose a 90x90x90 stainless tank once.

Most will gladly add a car or a crate to their trailer in exchange for gas money. When time comes, give me a buzz. Ian

Bruce :7drive: Hi Bruce, Try Associated Shippers 1-800-489-8984. I call around to get a quote to ship an engine and they had the best prices and delivery times. I shipped just over 475 lbs about 1500 mile for under $250.

They have depots near all major airports but you must drop it to them and have it picked up at the other end at their depot. You could strap the frame to a pallet and fill in the "holes" with the boxes. Wrap everything with cling film wrapping plastic and it should be secure. An engine builder friend of mine built a small block Ford for a customer in California and they shipped and insured it for about $475.00, including $10,000.00 worth of insurance (Maryland to Sacramento). He got a quote from another company for $1,100.00. When I got the engine you kindly checked out for me shipped the guy used another company because it was close to his home but it will be worth it to get a quote from Forward Air if they are close enough to you.
