New Member 2004 RS SV w/ Zetec

Thought I would send you guys a pix of my new SV. Purchased from sevens and elans last year. Engine is a zetec. Wonder if anyone would recocnize the engins specs.

The data plate says: 2M6Z-60006-BARN on the engine data tag. Remanufactured in 2004 on the tag. Trans. is a 5 speed. I really enjoy this car. Also enjoy the posts. Engine is suppose to be the 185 HP Zetec. Can you tell by the numbers?

Welcome aboard the forum. Great looking car, I'm just slightly biased towards Caterham SVs ;)

 

I can't help you out with the engine specs but I'm sure someone on here can or you could contact Caterham USA, they *might* have the specs on record if the engine was purchased from them.

I have an 84 long cock pit model, which with my little legs I have to fit blocks behind the seat back to reach the pedals.Anybody know the story on the "long cockpits"... like where did the length come from?

I have to say though, this car of yours looks like it is a lot more liveable (relative in a 7 I know) than the stock, do they still make this model ,I see no listing for it on Caterham USA.

Oddly enough for a car that is bigger all around , it seems to be enhanced in looks by it's size and not bloated, in any event it really is a great looking car, best of luck with it.

PS .what does "SV" stand for......Series 5 or Super Volume.

They first added length to the cockpit to accommodate taller people. Then in the SV they added width as well to accommodate those of us whom are less svelte than we used to be. It also has a wider pedal box which made it possible for me to own one since I couldn't get my right foot past the brake to get to the throttle in the standard width Caterhams.

 

I don't know what SV stands for but Nathan Down who worked at the factory back then and designed the SV said it was originally (and lovingly) called the Fat Bastard.

 

The CSR2XX series is based on the SV frame and regular SVs are also still available. I agree they didn't ruin the shape and style of the classic Series 3 when they made the SV, I really like the look and comfort of mime.

BTW, I stopped by Nathan's new job today and found him happily working on the very last C type Jaguar built. He used to work for RMSC but now works in a vintage race car restoration and repair shop in Boulder, CO. I took some pictures of the C type and will post them up later in the off topic section of the forum.

I seem to recall reading many moons ago that the car itself is the same length, but they got the extra legroom by making the bulkhead in front of the fuel tank more vertical. Kept the top in the same place, "pushed" the bottom rearwards (now 'steeper') to give longer legroom.

Could be nonsense, but thats what I heard; seems a simple low cost change, in keeping with the theme back then.
