Ran into a couple of friends.

Recommended Posts

Well I went to Cars and Coffee in Irvine, CA. today and ran into Morgan and his 7 (AKA Orange). Morgan is enjoying his 7 a lot and is keeping it looking like new.

So what is the purpose of the black material between the windscreen and the rear fender on the lower body panel? Nice car.

The black material you are asking about are quarter doors. They actually reduce the amount of wind and road debree from entering the passenger compartment. A very nice option that you can make or purchase from Caterham if you have a Caterham and lots of $ as they are not cheap.

For Birkin owners, the Caterham quarter-doors fit on a Birkin perfectly. I bought a new set off ebay several years ago and added my own snaps to match the male snaps already on the car. As Martin said, they really cut down on road debris flying into the cockpit while reducing wind buffeting. They have a molded recess so you can still rest your arm on the side sill of the car.

Hank,

Fluke Motorsports carries them for Westfields, but they refer to them as half doors, not quarter doors. I believe there are other firms who also sell them for our cars. Just do a search for "half doors" on WSCC.

(Mr) Orange's half dooor attachs in a pretty clever fashion. besides the typical pop snap on the rear, the top leading edge is fastened by a 1/4 turn fastener which make opening and swinging the door upwards quite easy.

Al had some pics up of it.
