EzPass/ETag on Sevens

I mounted an EzPass electronic toll tag on my car for the first time last weekend and went out for a drive. So here I am coming up to the toll barrier gate and at the last second realize that its not going to open for me. After throwing out all anchors and stopping I proved 2 things:

1) My rollbar does not quite fit under the auto toll barriers on the NJ Turnpike (but the windscreen and driver do!)

2) My new Ezpass does not work on the Seven (but it does work in other cars and yes my account is up to date.).

If I took it away from the windscreen and waved it around well away from the car the e-tag would work. Has anyone had similar issues? Is the car too low compared to the toll sensors? I am thinking it is something to do with the heated windscreen that I have but cannot rationalize why?

Any thoughts gratefully appreciated.

Most of the physical tags (here in Dallas anyway) make the lights turn green, but it is the license plate which is queried in the database for appropriate charges.

Perhaps your license plate is obscured (i.e., too low) for the cameras?

I am not familiar with that EZ-Pass technology but I suppose it is some RFID system and furthermore assuming that you may have a heated windshield the embedded wires can interfere.

But that is just a possibility. For the microwave reception of the speed radar detector the heated windshield of my car was not a problem.

Heated windsields will cause all kinds of havoc with wireless sensors when on and can make a compass spin like a top if close by it....the compass.

Check to see if your windshield heater is on when the switch is in the off position...could be wired backwards if you have a switch for it. Could also be switched by the ignition switch or master switch like in some aircraft I have flown...in those aircraft you had to pull the circute braker to insure that no power was being applied to the windshields when swinging the wet compass located on the glareshield.

As SLOMOVE has stated the wires can cause interferance but it is the electrical field that they creat that really causes the trouble in most instances.

Just my belief and in no way should this reflect that I know what I am talking about when it comes to electrical interferance caused by electrical fields or anything that acts like that......Now Smile and think how you must have looked on the security cameras at the toll booth.....(:>)

Well it looks like it is the heated windscreen causing the problem:

"The vehicles listed below are equipped with special windshields that contain metal in the glass(metal oxide) that prevents the E-ZPass tag from being read properly. Windshields with solar ray glass, solar tint, heated or heat reflective windshields, and insulated or Insta-Clear glass may also prevent the tag from being read properly.

This has to be the first time a Seven has been associated with a Buick Roadmaster. oh the shame :(

How about mounting it inside the fiberglass nose cone before the radiator?

FWIW, E470, the only toll road in the Denver area just switched over to reading your plates and billing you. You can still use the box if you want to.
