So when does a 7 become a hotrod?

Recommended Posts

My ideal hot rod would be a 32 Ford style hot rod built in the classic style. It would have a Jag straight 6 with side draft Webbers painted white with polished aluminum accessories. 5 speed manual transmission. Simple interior. It wouldn't be fast. It would be a cruiser for the Saturday night show and shines.

Hello 911 What is your emergency?....... ummm............ my roof won't open.....and I'm stuck in my car. Please restate your emergency. My motor quit...... and now my roof won't open!!!

Sir this line is for emergency use only.........are you intoxicated sir!

Take the pocket knife from your pants and cut a line then push the top open. Everyone here carries a knife or two, don't they?

IMO one of the core parts of a Seven's DNA is it's lack of weight. One can't add doors or a top or much of anything and still have the light weight. And once you put in a large motor you need a larger chassis and bigger brakes and larger wheels and tires and then the low weight part of the DNA is compromised.

Don't get me wrong....... I love some of these larger and more powerful Sevens but in my mind they lean more toward hotrods than Sevens.

In my mind once you cross the 1500 pound range you are transitioning from Seven to hotrod and it's just too far away from the original Sevens 1000 pounds.

Dave

thats it !

I would say a lot of the member cars here are "hot rods" over 7's.

There is a heavy emphasis on hp and money over cheap and fast.

What's your distinction between hotrod vs sportscar?

The emphasis is " Build or Buy what you like, and enjoy it !!!

I have never found " Cheap and Fast" .

I think a Seven is a Seven when it looks like a Seven. The LiSS's that I can think of pass that test. For instance, Stalkers pass that standard with flying colors but weigh around 1800 lbs.

I think light weight is one measure (my car weighs about 1250) but simplicity of design and appearance and function also count. And this is one of the few car sites where a car over 1500 lbs is considered to be heavy-most car owners would be thrilled to get their car under 2000 lbs. My Miata was about 2100 lbs and I was pretty proud of its lightness.

I agree Andrew 7's dad's car is amazing. Andrew's own Lowcost is no slouch either.
