JohnCh
This is potentially very interesting. A group of engineering students from Stanford and the Technical University of Munich have collaborated on a potential solution to a drafty convertible: drill a hole through the windshield. According to their findings, the air flowing through that orifice creates an air stream that prevents the air at the sides of the cockpit from curling back around the windscreen. Cool! I've been thinking about replacing my windscreen which is pretty pitted after 25k miles of use. I may have to try this on the outgoing unit. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/26/backdraft-does-drilling-a-hole-in-a-convertibles-windshield-al/ -John
slomove
Interesting....makes some sense. Less vacuum in the cockpit makes for less turbulence. But I am surprised that such a small hole should make a difference. But who knows. It did cross my mind mounting the windscreen so that there is maybe a 1" gap between the screen and the scuttle. But never got around to trying that. I would also not appreciate having a stripe of dead bugs on my shirt. Gert

Gert I already have a 1" gap in the middle and the edges of my old windshield frame if I just mount it on my new scuttle. I should try it. only problem is rain. I'm not really concerned about bugs. I think that area will still be out of the air stream, so you wouldn't get many bugs there.
BusaNostra
Engineering students from Stanford and the Technical University of Munich should collaborated to stop the rain so I can drive my buggy. Month of June, we had 24 days of rain. Month of July....still raining. 7 days forecast in my area: MONDAY-rain TUESDAY -so,so http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/8338/1303animado.gif WEDNESDAY-rain THURSDAY -rain FRIDAY-rain SAT-rain SUN-rain http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/5090/1308animado.gif
BruceBowker
Everyone has their own likes and dislikes but I love having that air blasting around me. It is like riding a motorcycle but safer. Bruce
JohnCh
My guess is that you don’t do a lot of extended freeway driving on Bonaire Without the wind wings or side curtains in place, my car becomes downright unpleasant at 70mph. -John
powderbrake
While I get a bit of buffeting around the head, but not too much to be uncomforable, ther eis no buffeting at the sides, or the reverse flow that kicks the ladies hair up in the back. I assume because I have the semicircular windscreens (they are much larger than a set of Brooklands screens) the flow through the center works like the article. Still I like it. Now boats without windscreens - even more fun. Those I do have on Bonaire.

Texas is in a major draught. Lake Travis which supplies Austin with all its water is nearly dry. That same problem is happening all over the state.
