Mondo
I just bought some heat material (expensive - $1.08sq. in) and plan on making a shield sort of like the one here. http://www.koolmat.com/side-exhaust.shtml It will be a lot shorter as the muffler is only 12 inches long (and the tailpipe a little more)will probably ceramic coat it to match exhaust. Don't think I'll go all the way forward to the collector due to the 2 sensors and the different diameters along the way (only exhaust pic I got) Edited July 29, 2009 by Mondo
gjd6640
I've been thinking about doing this someday. I'd like to see the pics of the shield before you mount it and again afterward so that we can see how you put it together. Are you planning to start with an off-the-shelf shield, cut it down to the needed length, and then ceramic coat it?
BusaNostra
Why pay $500.? Ask a local sheet metal guy to roll you a 5 1/2 inch stainless half moon and you are all set. I paid $90. Edited August 11, 2009 by BusaNostra
Mondo
Exactly! Probably have it made like this and then coat it (maybe radius cut one end to get close to exhaust tip. Still waiting for insulation material to show up.
Ian7
I've got a nearly new stock Caterham heat shield and band clamps I'm not using. Make me an offer?
WestTexasS2K
That is one of the reason I like the Hushpower 2 muffler. It has cool shell technology which gets warm but doesnt get hot. With the ceramic coating it is much better than all the other mufflers I have used. A little extra shield on it would be even safer.
BusaNostra
This is the latest Hushpower, designed for Lotus 7 and Cobra car. They are quite @ idle but hi-pitch in high rpm. At 8,000-9,000rpm almost the same sound of a Yoshimura when I had it in my 7 turbo Busa. Just what Westtexas said, it has cool shell technology. You actually can touch the muffler when the engine is running. I don't know if they release this muffler for sale. Flowmaster gave it to me to test in a Lotus7 type car. I agreed to use them in exchange of a feedback. One thing I can tell you, this muffler is "materiales fuerte" made is USA. This ain't gucci fake made in china. http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/6356/hushpower2.jpg Edited August 9, 2009 by BusaNostra
WestTexasS2K
I find the hushpower has tone at idle and cruising up to 65 or 70. It will talk to you when you get on it. I still find it better than the other units I have tried. It is a little on the heavy side though.
