twnpipe Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Found this in Sacramento off Craigslist and bought it over the phone after seeing 4 pictures. After 2 years of craving decided this is the one. Car is Champion Framed with Miata suspension and engine. I bought the car with engine out and all electrical removed, and with my pick up full of parts. Steve the 2nd builder of this car gets the credit for cage, front nose and alot of improvements. I'll call myself an assembler for now.
solder_guy Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 (as you probably already know) You can find alot of Miata based Locost support at www.locostusa.com Have Fun! Rob
twnpipe Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 Thank you solder guy and Kitcat and all information is appreciated. Soon I'll be looking for a used set of street wheels 15 x7? and tires 225/45 as the car has race only. Is the Miata 4 x72mm? pattern common?
scannon Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Miatas are 4 x 100mm, generally with a 43mm offset.
TheDingo8MyBaby Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 What type of tires does it run? 7s are so light and easy on tires that a lot of us use race tires on the street... As long as they say DOT approved (most non DOT approved tires will say "not for highway use") You're good to use them.

Have fun and keep posting those photos as you progress with the assembly.
jimrankin Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 I have a set of wheels (motegi)and tires(Dunlop Direzza) that came on an S2K I bought. I am looking for something that I can use for both street and track but if your going for a set for each these might be in OK.
jimrankin Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Just saw that you have a 4X100, My stuff is 5X100, sorry.
sparecr Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 CMC? As in Champion Motorcars from a few years back? The kit was sold out of Huntsville and based on Ron Champion's book and sort-of-kind-of was endorsed by him. I have an indirect contact with the guy who ran the company if you might have questions, just won't be a quick answer. They made a great kit with much racing sucess with one of thier cars.
twnpipe Posted April 17, 2010 Author Posted April 17, 2010 Just an update on progress, mirrors that work, fuel tank no longer seaps. Wiring wasn't fun.
twnpipe Posted April 17, 2010 Author Posted April 17, 2010 Don't know the weight yet. What is the easiest ways to find out? 7's weighed dry and without driver I assume?
Hank Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I weighed mine with a full tank of gas and all other fluids. With and without me. Corner scales are the most appropriate due to the low overall weight. A truck scale would be too crude.
DeanG Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Someone you have met through NASA should have access to scales. Even if you don't plan on corner weighting try and get a no fuel, high fuel with and without you in the car. It will give you something to ponder between track sessions.
