Since Hank is lazy...

Recommended Posts

...I went ahead and weighed my car.

1296 lbs.

- Full tank of gas

- Doors were on

- Top, jack/tools and tonneau in the 'trunk'

- My car has a 2.0 carbed Zetec and DeDion rear

- Heater

- Spare tire was on

- Log-like Caterham 15" wheels

Interestingly, almost perfectly balanced without me in the car.

LF: 321

RF: 317

LR: 328

RR: 330

Add in my 200 lbs, and I am sure it skews heavily to the left and to the back. Need to get threaded adjusters so i can corner balance...

I got the car aligned and put on some new shoes in the form of Toyo T1R's, which were the lightest/stickiest choice outside of getting some Avon CR's.

Spare is 30 lbs approx.

9 gallons of gas 63 lbs approx

Top/doors/jack etc., abt10 lbs total;

So net just under 1200 lbs.

My X-Flow, identical car otherwise, netted out at 1225.

Did your car weigh 1225 as it currently is (brooklands, no spare etc.)?

I had the full screen on, wh/really doesn't weigh all that much, its the areo drag that hurts.

I had the standard roll-over bar on it then, not the FIA bar that I am running now (wh/weighs abt 20 lbs more than the stock bar). I always have my spare tire with me, I just took it off for the weigh in.

I have an oil cooler and the car has been fully painted twice. My impression is that each coat of paint weighs about 5-10 lbs. My X-flow engine is supposed to be abt 30 lbs less than yours, so I am not sure why it was a few pounds heavier than your car. I have a small battery that weighs abt 15 lbs.

I was very happy with the 1225 weight, tho.

These make my Caterham SV seem a little porky at 1,348 with 6 gallons of fuel, windscreen and no weather gear, spare or jack. IIRC, the SV weighs about 80 lb more than the classic Caterhams, excluding the superlights.

The iron block engine, cast iron exhaust manifold and turbine housing plus intercooler and plumbing all contribute to the extra weight but more than compensate in increased power. :D

However, I have improved the overall power to weight ratio by losing 77 lb off my body since Aug 1st.

Hank, help all us out. Take your bathroom scale and 3 2x4 blocks to the garage. 1 block under each wheel then move the scale around each corner and add them up. It will be close, my fronts were around 235# and rears around 275#.

Now that's impressive Skip!

I think his problems is the hooter girls won't get out of the car.

Hey Hank, did you hide all the golf clubs around the house?
