rnr Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Just posted this video from Track4Fun on the GGLC Blog: [/url]http://gglotus.org/blog/?p=561
yellowss7 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Is he trying to drift or he just a crappy driver that applies the power with the wheel still turned and has to fight it to get it under control? Way to much driver input IMO. I think this backs up my point that a lower powered 7 is easier to drive at the limit than a high powered one. Tom

Way to much driver input IMO. Since the guys who uploaded the videos are track day organizers and the official Italian importers for Caterham I'd think that they might actually know how to drive them. I think this backs up my point that a lower powered 7 is easier to drive at the limit than a high powered one. Easier to drive does not always mean more fun. I know that the ridiculous power to weight ratio (>400 bhp/ton) of the Ultralite was one of the main reasons I bought mine. Its great fun to get the back end to break traction at will.

That is true but after watching the clip you can see that the driver of the Red Cat is much slower than the other 7 until it pulls over and then eventually catches up and passes the Red 7 and started to play WAG THE TAIL like the Red 7 was doing from the beginning. At one point the Red 7 came very close to losing it. Glad I am not paying for the Red 7's tires or maintance..... Easier to drive does not always mean more fun. Have to agree with you on the fun aspect but controlling an auto that has less power or a harder tire compound is also very fun when done correctly and with finesse..... Just my belief but what do I know.... Neat clip to watch though....was wondering if I would get to see the Red 7 loop in the process.

MHKflyer52 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Flat spotted those tires for sure......you could just about see the concern the driver of the Black and Sliver 7 at the beginning of the second spin by the way he or she backed off and waved while going by.....
DeanG Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 9 round auxiliary gauges, blinking lights, 2 digital displays... Who has time to drive with all those gauges to monitor?
TheDingo8MyBaby Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 9 round auxiliary gauges, blinking lights, 2 digital displays... Who has time to drive with all those gauges to monitor? I believe those 9 round auxiliary gauges are actually buttons... Personally, it just looks like a couple of guys screwing around on the track. I guess you could call it drifting but it's more power sliding than anything. These are a couple of videos from a guy I raced in the 24 hours of lemons with. He has a 250 hp 4age turbo powered locost. The steering angle is insane- almost 90 degrees. He owns a suspension company.
rnr Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 These are a couple of videos from a guy I raced in the 24 hours of lemons with. A fellow 7 owner from Vallejo who also races Lemons???? May I ask which team you are on? I am the captain for Formula BMW (Pink Pig E30).
MoPho Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 It's the same guy from the R500 vs GT2 battle at the Ring video I had posted a while back. He clearly knows how to drive. He said on another Caterham forum that they were messing around with springs and roll bar settings and the car became very tail happy, plus it was around 0 degrees Celsius with worn CR500 tires, so they made a fun video

I am the captain for Formula BMW (Pink Pig E30). We were team forced arousal - had a red MR2. We haven't run any of the races lately just because we're now all so busy. While Alex used to live in the Bay Area, he's now down in L.A. The team was based in southern california, but we drove up and raced at thunderhill. On a separate note - My girlfriend recently moved to sunnyvale, and I'll probably be following her soon provided I can find a job.

I was wondering how worn his tires were or how hot it was. It seems to slide more and easier with every turn. I only ever overheated my rear tires 1 time on my BEC powered 7. It was at Beaver Run, at an August event and I turned my left rear tire a very nice shade of blue on the outer half. Otherwise my car always just glided through corners with the greatest of ease and control, sooooooooo much fun!
pi7ot Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Has anyone ever gotten their left elbow trapped between the seat and the body. I was at an autox on an eighth mile oval . I had just climbed from the in field onto the oval and had to counter steer a little oversteer and my elbow went back and got caught. I kept the throttle on and went in a power oversteer drift around the section, wondering how I was going to free my elbow without jerking the steering and losing the car as I had to come off that section back into the infield. I got it done but did hit one cone. Some guy came up to me and nastily accused me of showboating. I said nothing, thinking if only you knew. My next run was FTD, so I'll bet he was just dandy . I had this happen again in a certain red solo 2 DM champion Westie. m
