Who sells R888s or R1Rs on-line?

Bob,

Pete at The Tire Source in Boulder sells them, 303-443-3021. His prices are competitive with the on line sellers and when he quotes you a price, mounting and balancing are included. You will pay sales tax but that is offset by no shipping charges.

Thanks guys,

I saw them some time ago on Discount tire, but it seems they have to special order these days. It looks as though Treadzone has to special order as well.

Skip,

I'll give Tire Source a bell in the morning.

Tiresdirect.net price seems too good to be true http://www.tiresdirect.net/TOYO_Proxes_R888_225_50ZR15_91_P4452C789.cfm Everyone else is around 175 clams for the same. I see that they have an excellent rating with BBB.

My problem is my A032 Yokos wear rather rapidly on the rear. I've still got half tread on the fronts and I need something cheaper as a stop gap on the rear to get full use out of the existing fronts. A032s are no longer produced and A048s are $220 each.

I'm a little concerned that the harder compound (100AA) Toyo/Nitto tyres might have less grip than the AQ032s. I don't really relish the idea of a car that oversteers like a unicycle.:ack:

I was a little suspect about TiresDirect.net given the really low prices, but a few forum searches turned up nothing but positive posts. I ordered my tires last month and they shipped within 24 hours. No complaints.

Bob,

Mention that price when you call Tire Source. Ask to speak to Pete, he is the one that can make the deals.

Mismatched tires are a very bad plan on a performance car like a Se7en. I highly recommend against it if you are going to be doing any canyon carving or track use.

Bill Cardell of Flyin Miata and I were talking about this earlier in the month. They put a fresh pair of the same tires on one end of one of their high performance Miatas and it was almost uncontrollable on the track. When they finally figured it out and put fresh tires to match on the other end all the handling gremlins went away.

Normally I'd agree, however I'm already adjusted to mismatched tires, in that the front and rear are different diameters and widths as well. I imagine whatever I get can be tweeked with front TP and a hole or two on the rear ARB, as long as they have similar grip to soft compound A032s.

If it doesn't work, I'll just have to spring for same brand tires on the front too.

I'll ask Pete if he can do Yoko A048s for a better price than Tirerack. If they were affordable, I'd just as soon go that route.

You should try out the NT01 - great R-compound tire at an affordable price

Took me a while to dial the pressure down far enough to find the real grip in the Nittos NT1's but once I did they really do stick well. Good turn in and give you some warning when your pushing it a bit too far. Running 17" X 235F-275R and now they seem to have most of the tire in near equal contact at about 15-16 Lbs cold front, 16-17 rear. My S2K is a bit heavier than RNR's being a bit more dressed up and I also am usually caring a passenger (I do this for fun, not points or bragging rights. Love to see the smiles and wide eyes! LOL). If I'm alone in the car I can drop the rears 2 Lbs. for better handling but don't go back out with a load without adding more air or you won't beleive how your "Super 7" turns into a Lincoln Mark 7.

Not having been on track with any other "track" tire on the car I can't give an opinion of which brand/tire is better, but the Nittos sure were an ample upgrade from my Dunlop Starspeck street tires. Three track days and about five hundred street miles on them now and they still feel fresh, no sign of heat cycling and I get them hot enough to melt pieces all over the car.

A big  to everyone's input in this thread!

I received some Toyos today from TiresDirect.net. The total cost after mounting will be $50 per skin cheaper than the next best price I could find. Ordered the 3rd, delivered the 9th.

Unless the stickers turn out to be made of screen or something, I can say I've had a good experience with TiresDirect.net
