Dang, Bruce. Why do you find and post all these temptations so close to Christmas? Now go out and find me one of these Superformance cars without an engine and tranny, Okay? I sure like the build quality of their cars; wish they had kept making the S1.

Now Frankn is being a smarty because he has an engine from a Boeing 747 in his car.

I have a 13B rotary. Super fast motor for the money. Many mods available.Easily winds to 8,000 rpm. Will use some oil. I don't know how much, since my new engine is breaking in. You should check if there is a choke in winter. Most run without them but it helps. I'm having one installed. Make sure it has the oil metering system on it and you don't have to mix oil with the gas. Plugs get fouled without the oil metering system.

You can look at mine if you are ever near DC.

The S1 forum shows this car as the only Rotary powered S1. The rest of them are

Zetec powered. So someone thought it was a good idea. S1's are good , but I don't know anything about a Rotary.

It no longer posted on E-Bay, hopefully it has a new owner.

Which engine from 747, GE, RR, or PW? And I know how he feels, dad used to fly the 747...:)

Just a follow up, what do you mean mix oil with gas? Like you do with your 2-stroke lawn mower?

A red S1 with rotary power was on ebay in june and looks to have sold for $16,000

It is listed in the cars for sale section on this forum in june.

I have a 12a engined 7 and love the revs. Probably the next best to a bike engine for high rpm fun. They are easier to drive around town and have reverse. They are a dirty motor and quite loud and could be potential problem if have to pass emissions.

And now there are two, Thanks

Another question regarding the S1. Are those hoops in the back a roll bar. If I want to track the car do I have to install roll bars?

Posted

Hi Seamore, Those hoops are hoops, not roll bars. No tech inspector I know likes them or will

pass it . If you are going to track it be smart and cage it up. Only one group ever let me slide, and they don't run track events anymore. The s1 is GREAT on a track .

How hard is it to put in roll bar? I had a Miata which I installed HardDog HardCore D2 in. Is it pretty easy where I can do the install on my own?

Many Rotary engine racers remove the oil monitoring system and add 2 cycle oil ( about 3 ounces per 5 gallons) to the gas tank and run the car that way.

Some rotary engines have had problems with oil starvation which damages engines. I understand that some of the simplest and earliest rotary engines were the best such as the 12A and 13b. Many of the Lotus 7 variants using a rotary use the 13B. Originally my car had the oil monitoring removed, but now it seems more reliable with the oil monitoring system back on it.

I never put proper roll-over protection on mine, because it would mean cutting out parts of the the back shelf. It would also cover up the area were the top supports slide into the body. Plus , The rollbar would be too tall to use the top. Blah,Blah Blah !!!

If I really want a track car I will sell my S1 and buy a proper racecar, or a Caterham with a FIA bar or better. I think my S1 is to nice to hack up. I feel that is the one area that Superformance screwed up on the S1.

They claimed that it is a great track car( and it is) but lacking rollover protection, you don't want to stuff it, or worse, roll it.

My 2 cents, LOL

Any idea if parts are available to swap out the rotary and go to a zetec or duratec.

I prefer a 4 cylinder engine, no offense to the seller or rotary fanatics....heck I am a Mazda fanatic, but I like my 7s with 4 cylinders in a line:)
