locost7018
We just got back from a trip to California and drove from LA to SF on Hiway 1. Just past the Hearst Castle we saw a sign saying the road was closed ahead. Well in the Midwest when a road is closed they point you to a detour. Well they don't do that out west I guess. A guy on a BMW bike told us about a road at mm 18 called Nacimento-Fergerson Rd. (across from the Kirk Creek Campground) that would get us over to hiway 101 without having to drive 200 miles out of our way. Now that was a fun road but not for going fast. An unGodly amount of twists and turns. Up hills and down hills. Very tight!!!! It is only about 1 1/2 cars wide. If you get a chance to drive it do so. Google map it. locost7018
Try this link to see the road (I hope it works) http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=35.985959,-121.485658&spn=0.015661,0.027595&t=h&z=
James A
Nice road, how was the pavement, in good shape?
Locost 5.0
I'll check that one out, there are some good roads in that area. Thanks, Rod
notakit
"ungodly amount of twists and turns" is an oxymoron!
MoPho
There are literally hundreds of roads like that all over CA http://www.lateralg.org/roads/roads.htm .
Sean
There are literally hundreds of roads like that all over CA http://www.lateralg.org/roads/roads.htm Yeah, especially as he was on PCH between LA and SF, turning back towards Kansas on pretty much any road along through there is going to be a good one. slomove
That is the road we did with a group of Se7ens in 2007. I believe I posted the video back then. Here it is again but I noticed Youtube stripped the audio because I used some background music and they recognized it as copyrighted:rolleyes: Anyway, nice road but lots of sandy curves back then. The wipeout in the video did not cause any damage but if the sand would have been on a cliff side right hand turn, well it is pretty steep there. Alaskossie
Gert, Are you familiar with the Pashnit site for driver's roads in California? http://www.pashnit.com/motoroads.htm A friend in Anchorage who is a vintage motorcycle road racer and who grew up in southern California says this guy has roads on there, in his own backyard, that even he wasn't aware of. It is a pay site, but apparently has hundreds of Seven/motorcycle roads.
Croc
A free site for good roads that is not as populated as the Pashnit site, that I use is: http://www.motorcycleroads.us/index.html Some of the finds in NJ/NY/PA have been excellent.
locost7018
Yeah I have used the motorcycleroads site before. Very helpful. Russ

But then, I believe I could start a similar site for Se7en tours in California
MoPho
The lateral-g site I posted earlier has most of the California roads listed with nice maps and descriptions as well
Sean
A friend lives in Big Sur. Rain has now washed out a road to the north and a road to the south of the house in which she lives, and the only way in or out is by helicopter ($70 each way). Fortunately, because the residents in this area are aware of the possibility of this type of thing happening and of the lack of alternate roads available to use as a detour, she has adequate provisions to stick it out for a few days until the roads can be repaired and re-opened. That's the price one has to pay to live in such a remote area.
