Great pictures. Until you see a guy down next to the lake wall I had no idea how big that lake was. Brave guys - better them than me.

Last summer we were at the Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica. We stayed around till dark

 

to see the lava roll down the volcano. I asked the guide how long would we have

 

to live if it really lit off, he said 6 to 8 seconds. He said the gases would kill you first .

Current issue of National Geographic has an article on this - one goal was to get a "fresh" sample of the lava, which is the Earth's magma for a better understanding of what's going on under our feet. These pictures are amazingly revealing.
