blubarisax
OK, after spending the nicest Saturday of the year playing with a set of Carbon Fiber Tillett Caterham (B2) seats that I got when I bought my car, I give up. I'm an optimistic sort of guy, so I thought a little dieting, making a seat pad and a little luck would make the hip bones of a 6'6"/300# frame fit...but no luck. Man I wish I could fit. These are made by Tillett for a Caterham SV or CSR. They are probably a little to wide for for a standard size Caterham. Mounting hardware and seat rails are included. They have the Alcantara pads, with Caterham printed in the headrests. They have never been used, other than a couple of trial installs. Other than a repair I had to make on a cross threaded side mounting nut (not visible), they are like new. These seats would really make any car look and feel great. Caterham charges 950 GBP each for these and plus shipping. Yes, at today's exchange rate that is a whopping $1,531. I'm not in a rush to sell them, so I'm taking offers. http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/img/p/3024-2998-thickbox.jpg http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=3024
Boxologist
you will adopt me and I will sleep in them.
blubarisax
I don't know about adoption, but I might swap for some rainbow decals
Kitcat
They don't appear to have the anchor strap cutout for 5-6 piece harness, otherwise I'd be bidding.
Croc
Mike - I can confirm they do have the cutout in the seat base for a 5 or 6 point. In the photo it is invisible behind the little hump. Check closely at the B2 photo on the website and you can just see the cutout: http://www.tillett.co.uk/car-racing-seat.asp Your bigger issue is that I am pretty sure they are too big to fit in a S3 chassis seven. They will only fit an SV or CSR. Anyway, given your svelte build you would be better off going for the narrower (B1?) tillets as they will fit you tighter and stop you sliding around. Even I am very tempted by these seats as these were installed in my seven at Silverstone and I was amazed that fatso the clown me fitted comfortably in them and even more amazed I survived a day driving. Do you have the adjustable seat rails with these? Karl - How about I give you Boxologist and I take the seats off you? Stop putting up these temptations - I already bought a ton of carbon fiber this week for the car! Edited July 17, 2011 by Croc
blubarisax
Mike, Croc is correct, they have the cutout for the crutch straps. They are about 43cm wide at the base, and may be a bit too wide. Send me your car's interior width and I can let you know for sure. Better yet, meet me at Watkins Glen 7/30-31 with your car in tow for a trial fit. I should of thought to bring one to NJMP. I bet your car would gain 20 MPH on the straights (even bigger gains while you are parked) with these babies. Croc, yes, they come with the adjustable tracks and hardware. If these were 15mm wider I think they would have fit me. Just imagine how good they would look with your color scheme and all the rest of your CF and they hold you in ever so securely when having an off track experience. I'll even help you put them. (By the way, did you ever get your cam cover?) Edited August 8, 2011 by blubarisax
Croc
Karl - I am not sure it is an issue of fitting in the S3 chassis, it is more that Mike is not built with "wide-track" like you and I and as such would be better off in a "narrow-track" seat that holds him better. Also the u-track bars mounted under the floorpan of Mike's would need to be made wider for these seats. Cam cover is on the way - here in a week. Other carbon purchases should follow very shortly. It is part of a master plan to make sure that 1) my superlight is truly superlighter than Tom's superlight, and 2) when I spin next time the dust cloud will prevent you from videoing my embarrassment! Kitcat
Karl: My car has 16 inches of room for my sorry butt. I suspect your SV sized seats are too wide, as Croc points out. Let me know. I only need one for the passenger. when i bought the Tillet CF for myself it was so much $$$$, I left the stock passenger seat as is. Mike M. blubarisax
Yep, these seats would be an inch too wide.
ottocycle
Karl, I have my car up for sale with a view to building a "Son of Heretic", faster sharper track car. I would be interested in the seats if it sells and if you still have the seats l would like to talk with you. Thanks, Dermot.
blubarisax
Good luck with selling your car... I'm curious to see your next venture. Karl Edited July 17, 2011 by blubarisax
blubarisax
[/img]The seats are no longer for sale. After a little confidence building phone all with the friendly folks at Tillett, I decided to operate on my lovely carbon fiber seats. My problem is that the top of my femur pinched against the sides of the bucket. So, I just got out a grinder and went to town. Once I had what I hope is enough material removed and shaped, I filled in the gap with some epoxy putty then finished off the rest with some JB Weld. It all sanded up quite nicely and seems to be holding. </p><p> </p><p> If this does not work then I http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/blubarisax/th_IMG00194-20110807-1831-5.jpg' alt='th_IMG00194-20110807-1831-5.jpg'> http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/blubarisax/th_IMG00193-20110807-1809.jpg
Croc
If you did not cut out enough then maybe try a seat pad from Oxted Trimming. Apart from being softer to sit on it will just raise you out of the seat a fraction to for your bones clear the sides of the seat.
blubarisax
I tried sitting on a pad of 1" closed cell foam and it was not enough to resolve the issue. When moving up you can run into issues with your hip bones hitting onto the side bolsters. So out came the saw.

Croc
The CSR, SV seats will NOT fit in an S3 chassis And there is also a good chance the SV/CSR driver will have a muffin top in the S3!
