Tom, glad your new house is OK. I had a flight out to San Francisco on Saturday morning. All the flights out were cancelled Friday night so we hopped in the car and drove to Pittsburgh to get west. DeanG Posted August 29, 2011 Share Posted August 29, 2011 The power went off again. It failed about midnight on Saturday. Cable is back up but not power. Not much damage in this part of Virginia and only one tragic death. A neighbor's house was condemed due to a tree through the roof. $5,000 to remove the tree. No traffic, little rain and great service. Pi7ot sorry to hear about house being under 13 feet of water. That sucks. Otherwise glad most of you got through it fairly well. I'll need to caulk up the holes that were made screwing in the plywood to cover the doors and windows, at least that's what I was told. I did not go down, as we had tenants that have rented the place for 5 straight weeks ending next week. So we will go down and check it out durning the turnover to the next tenant. It's rented thru to the end of October. It will be interesting to see what the beach and dune look like. We literally are less than 100 yard from the surf and the dune is less than 10 feet high. The house has an awesome view, but now in retrospect, it may be just a little too close for comfort. :willy_nilly: A little more than a month ago it seemed like a great idea and a good investment. Now after weathering a hurricane, and playing Landlord, I'm starting to have second thoughts. On paper it's a good deal. We'll see. Here's the view on a nice day. MHKflyer52 Posted September 1, 2011 Share Posted September 1, 2011 Hi Tom, That is good. Plugging some screw holes with calking gives you a good excuse to spend some time there and enjoy the beach. As a kid my Grand Parents owned several places in Wildwood and Wildwood Crest and I can remember spending many summers playing on the beach and riding my bike on the boardwalk in the morning as a kid. I also remember Hurricane Donna when it passed by on Sept 11th 1960 (two days before my b-day) as my father and grandfather and I watched one of the beach homes my grandfather owned that was on the beach front wash out to sea and the surf wash under the boardwalk and down the street as we were staying in Wildwood when Donna passed by on its way north. Our house was on E20th Ave midway between Atlantic Ave and Surf Ave in Wildwood as that is where my parents had a summer residents at the time. Things have change since then I suspect as it has been 43yrs since I was their last when I helped move my grandmothers stuff from her house so I do not even know if the house my folks had is still there. Oh well life goes on and storms come and go and things change is all I know so enjoy your beach property which has a great view from the photo you posted. Due to changes in the currents or something, Wildwood's beaches have been growing every year. It's my understanding that the walk to the surf from the boardwalk is now over a 1/4 mile trek. Here are some pictures that I found on line. Just imagine that walk on hot sand!:ack: I have very foggy memories of spending my Senior week from High School in Wildwood, back when the drinking age was 18.
