Kitcat
FWIW: Caterham has confirmed that this was manufactured by them in August 1997.
rikker
Kitkat Do they provide a free history?
Kitcat
Sort of. You call, pester, beg and eventfully if you seem desperate enough, they get out their old records and look it up. Thais all per a potential buyer in Canada who needed the info to decide if he cld legally import it.
rikker
You would think they would offer that info freely, I think having history is very important.
Ian7
Re: vehicle history from Caterham... When I was having build problems with my '02 kit, and had given up on the dealer I bought the kit from ever being helpful, I contacted Caterham directly with the VIN off the chassis and sales documents, and they claimed my car didn't exist LOL

rikker
that is so fkn sad, I mean we obviously all love these cars so much that we accept levels of service that we are forced to accept after purchase as there is no other choice; yet when it comes to basic no cost info that you would expect even ANY little home based biz to have ...they are less than zero. And what is the deal with Caterham in the USA right now? Edited October 3, 2011 by rikker
Croc
If you are trying to confirm build then use this chassis identification site to analyze what your car is. http://7faq.com/owbase/ow.asp?ChassisNumbers#h10 Of course the US/Canada cars are all kits and usually the engine and gearbox is "NS" but it will confirm year/short/long cockpit/etc. Won't help if you need an official letter though.... Guest Terry
The build date of the chassis is stamped under the role bar. Arch Motors stamp all their chassis.
Kitcat
Interesting. I was told that the kit assembler (Sevens and Elans) stamped the assembly date on in that spot. Your info makes much more sense. (Cudda saved my buyer a lot of trouble....).
Guest Terry
The stamp that Arch Motors makes starts with AM then the date. I assume that the car is still for sale?
Kitcat
My Canadian prospect says he will buy it. We agreed on a price, etc., over the weekend. Awaiting a deposit. Have had other folks come close, but then disappear, so not claiming this as a sale quite yet, but strongly suspect the deed is done. Mike M. Mike I dint want to put cold water on your deal, but that car cannot be bought into Canada legally. Over the past few years my company http://www.7cars.ca has bought in many cars from the US, the car has to be over 15 years old, had it I would have already bought it. The only way that car can come into Canada is as an unregistered Race Car, if the guy then tries to register is once he's back here, he could find himself in a lot of trouble. Recently a guy did the same with an Atom and is now the guest of her Majesty. Give me a call if you need to. Terry
Kitcat
Thx. We are aware of that issue and storage arrangements in USA have been made thu August 2012. I am helping for 1st 6 months and reduced the price some to make this happen. The buyer is very motivated. And I admire his enthusiasm:). Guest Terry
Thats great news. To make this happen faster. Dismantle the car and ship the CBU and the mechanical parts separately, then it arrives in Canada it can be reassembled and a vin applied for. You would need to invoice him for the CUB and the parts separately.
Kitcat
Thx, interesting option. But I am going to keep it simple and proceed per plan.
Kitcat
Deal finally consummated today. Buyer sold his restored ElanS2 and TR6 to buy it. Lives in Canada but is from England. He grew up near Caterham, helped a friend build one in early 70's, has rented them on return trips to England. In other words, a big fan. Great to see it going to a great home with someone who will enjoy it as much as I have.

Thats great :hurray: Can you please pass on his details and I can get him on the Canadian Owners List. http://www.7cars.ca/canadian_owners.html
Kitcat
I will give him your info so he can contact you. He's a gearhead, having totally restored his Elan S2, including rebuilding the engine, so a Caterham is a good fit for him (and he even knows how to pronounce Caterham correctly:)).
