Who has a quiet exhaust system and how?

By "quiet" I mean below 95db and sounds properly like a sports/racing car without hurting your ears or the neighbors; or the neighborhood pets' ears. Like maybe you could have a conversation with a passenger without screaming type quiet.

There's an Older person in my neighbourhood that has a new Caterham.

But the Muffler is so damn loud that it's sets off every Alarm on the street when he drives by even slowly.. every single time.

He's Embarrassing in a word.

One Neighbor is seriously thinking of seriptitiously painting "Too Loud' on the fool's car.

Nothing cleverer than Audibly Identiying oneself to Every police officer within a Mile radius, without mentioning the wisdom of continually annoying the neighbors.

I've got the standard Caterham exaust. To get the car to pass the 88 db limit at Lime Rock, I put in a modified Dynatech Vortex Insert Cone (inserted just after the collector and before the muffler) and that did the trick. While power seems just the same, I do miss the louder sound on the track. It makes me think I'm going faster!!!

Don't under estimate the motorcycle mufflers. The companies spend a fortune on R&D. They are in a highly competitive market where a few HP counts, performance and dyno numbers plastered in every magazine and web site days after being releases. Yet the bikes meet every sound regulation around the world, with the muffler just sitting there is full view. The high end race systems that have ear bleeding sound levels often only pick up 8hp on a 150hp bike. The volume of air they can handle is large, the modern sport bike at 16k is pushing a lot of air. You can often pick the stock ones up for next to nothing. I would have one on mine but the header is to close to the bodywork, so I went for a Hushpower.

Hi Michael,

A larger diameter Silencer will help with your noise issue, the greater the area of the silencer the more it will reduce the dBA.

We manufacture a Repack Silencer which is 6” Diameter (please see attached sketch for common dimensions), I have also attached a few images to show some of our previous work.

I have attached a link from our noise test results we have previously carried out - http://www.wunoff.co.uk/images/WUNOFF%20WEB-SITE%20INFO2.pdf

A non-cat Repack silencer is £220 GBP + VAT

If you wanted to order, I would need to know the following;

· External size of manifold/link pipe.

· Whether you would like a Brushed or polished skin

· Road of motorsport application

· BHP of the engine

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me

Kind Regards

I wonder if you could put a side exhaust, with a small resonator, then small muffler. Then route the tip thru the fender to the rear (some cars have this) and than put a rear muffler like this... Seems that would be the most you could do. The sound out the back would be less annoying than the side (especially if it's on your side).
