slngsht Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Finally got things hooked up and tried to get her started. It scared the CRAP out of me. LOL. After a few almost starts... it fired right up and revved HIGH (must be awesome for the motor :ack: ). Since I have everything just hanging off the car, I wasn't prepared for that :willy_nilly:. It didn't bounce off a rev limiter - if I had to guess, it probably went to 7k or so. I think it died on its own. Yikes. Didn't do my ears any good either with open headers in a garage with closed doors. On the next attempt I was prepared to shut her off. LOL. Finally realized the two throttle actuator connectors are interchangeable. swapped them and she starts up smoothly :hurray:
MHKflyer52 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I bet your face hurts from the smile on it.
slngsht Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 I bet your face hurts from the smile on it. Yes it does... As soon as I came back in the house I started listing all the stuff that need to be done before I can take her for a spin. LOL. It's a LONG list.
yellowss7 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Mazda, I certainly hope that you will make the effort to get it done in time for our Spring Trackday event. Hopefully, you and Al will both have your cars ready by then. :driving: Tom
slngsht Posted December 10, 2011 Author Posted December 10, 2011 RHD, Thats cool..... Sounds great... That's because I'm doing everything opposite of Frankn7 Steve. LOL
slngsht Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 Not much. Brakes are functional now. I just finished the shift linkage and have lost one of my rod ends... have to clean the garage to find it accelerator pedal is done - just need to finish hooking up throttle and clutch cables. Then I need to put a wood board on the driver side and see if I can drive it around the cul-de-sac VERY slow progress on this car.
yellowss7 Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Coming along nicely Mazda. :hurray: Looks like your head is pretty close to the height of your roll bar. With a helmet on, you may be a little above it. Might want to measure that just to be sure, if you plan on doing any track events. Tom
slngsht Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Tom, since i don't have a floor yet, I'm sitting on a piece of wood on top of the frame, so I should drop a little more than an inch. I'll also be more laid down when it's all said and done. So much to do still...
MHKflyer52 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Very Cool Mazda. I know your face hurts from the smile that you mush have now. Very Cool.
BessieTheSeven Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) Yoohoo...Hello Possum! You might be thinking you are making slow progress but I still beat you for the slowest restoration on earth I am still stuck in Ben's garage in Denver waiting for the world's slowest USA7s Officer decide if my gear stick should be 5.15 inches or 5.25 inches. :willy_nilly: So what is your new girlfriend (or FWB, or "close personal friend", or "we are just friends") called? She looks like she should be called Shirley The Seven as 'shirley she must be finished soon'? What are your plans for new sexy body work? Given this is a R1 BEC I think it has to be red bodywork to match the chick on the Special K cereal ad. Will I get to meet her one day 10 years from now when Al finally gets around to finishing me? Keep posting those updates - a girl has to stay competitive! Edited March 11, 2012 by BessieTheSeven
slngsht Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 LOL. Poor Bessie. You'll be one fine Seven when done
