MoBoost
Not much in common with my '85 Caterham! Is that a Volvo Engine?
scannon
It's a 5 cylinder Audi turbo engine.
TxCoyote
I for one like it. Too bad we can't get them here.
Croc
The price of the new GTO is between EUR 100,000 and EUR 150,000 excluding taxes. US$130k to US$195k I will be very interested to read the road test as sadly there is not much hope of getting a Donke here in the US.
jimrankin
Really well done and much better looking than most of the "too over the top to be called a 7" cars out there. The only thing I don't understand is just why someone would pay that kind of money for something that most of our cars can blow away on a track or twisty. In this case some of us could probably even keep up or pass on anything but a really long straight. I don't see that big a market for just selling it as a toy to the super rich. But then, they have been around for quite a while so maybe I'm just not in touch with what 130K means in the specialty car market anymore. Creature comfort well over a 7 but still not up to what I think of as the 130K level, and not a hack of a lot more room either. I'd rather build two sevens for that pile of cash, one just a gutted track day monster and the other a little bit pimped out for the street. Oh, I just answered my own question! People who spend 130K+ for a toy don't know, or want to find out, what a busted knuckle feels like. LOL.
danilo
It's a Sevenesque "ghetto cruiser" :-) just add 21" spinner wheels and it would be perfect. Always amazes that someone will ultimately buy.. anything.. that's offered for sale.
speedwagon
everything is a compromise, but instead of this, why not a ls1 Stalker with good foul weather cover and heat/ac, balance on a track car if you wanted one. Have a S1 and have come to accept that you can not shake down a design in a production run of 50, not to mention where in the blazes do we get parts? My take is stick to the tried and true where you can get support for most of what you have or build a locost yourself. My choice for a DD would be an fd rx7 with LS1 and auto. or a mid-ship lotus. But kinda like what i have.
Mondo
I know a lot of people's eyes roll when they see the price of a Caterham so this price isn't all that out of line. In fact, most people wouldn't pay what we did for the various clones we drive. To each there own... hope they sell all of them.
jimrankin
I know the Audi turbo 5 cyl is kind of unique and has a good amount of power, but Speedwagon is right about sourcing parts and getting some real HP into a project. The Donkervoort seems like it's already wide enough and could have used the Ls1 and the new auto or 6 speed manual from GM for probably less money, a lower CG, more HP, more torque and no turbo heat under the hood. Never say NO to free HP.
