2012 Sevens at NJMP trackday

Been told by the driver of the car hauler that my car will be in Utah when I leave Saturday. But my Birkin is "almost"ready. So looks like it's the Birkin for me at NJMP, depending how broadly one defines "almost" (I am adopting an optimistic definition).

The truck driver said he like the Caterham tho, drove it onto truck. Also races motorcycles at NJMP, so was simpatico.

Still room for more. Come on Stig make it an even 10 on track.

The Tent will be set up and Beverages will be chilled for your arrival on Sunday in the Thunderbolt Paddock. We'll do dinner at the Clubhouse after everyone arrives and has a chance to unwind a bit.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

When you arrive at NJMP on Sunday, head over to the Thunderbolt circuit and look for Tom and I somewhere around garage 119 under the 2 story Pit Straight building.

I just drove the Birkin onto my trailer, so it's coming w/me. Took it for a little spin, it performed perfectly. I had forgotten how amazing these cars are-driving a SUV for the last 6 weeks dulled my senses. Anyhow, we'll see how it does on the track Monday and Tues. If it passes that test I will list it for sale (now that I have spent a fortune getting it sorted).

Tom:

You posted elsewhere that 2 offs and you are done. Is that per day? In other words IF I shd go off 2 times 1st day, do I get a fresh start Tuesday, or am I heading home Monday?

As you know this is not a hypothetical scenario. I have driven 4 laps and maybe 50 miles, since our last event at NJMP (where I acquired my avatar wheel photo). The car has been laid up pretty continuously since then, or in winter storage. Thus, I dont claim to have figured the car out yet. My learning curve will continue, I am just trying to figure how much wiggle room I have to do that. Obviously, my hope and my goal is zero offs, but.....

:smilielol5::smilielol5:Mike, I'm sure you will remember the track well enough to stay on the tarmac. However it is 2 spins and you are done for the day. Brake on the straights, not in the turns and behave yourself.:smash::smash:

Its ok Mike - SCDA were relaxed with my 3 offs in 1 day last year! - Turn 1 Lightning all 4 wheels off, my magnificent dust cloud at Turn 4 and the goof on the exit of Turn 5 :o I really do not think they were counting and I was suitably contrite. SCDA's wording reads as a fresh start rule each day.

My recommendation is take it easy, use proper racing lines and if you do go off just don't do it that frequently. I also recommend not mentioning it loudly like you did to the organizers at the November 2011 NJMP event :D

I think I see the error in your ways Mike. You're supposed to take it out for a Blat not go for a spin. :jester: That like Croc saying he's had a little Dust up.

Wish me luck. The car is 95% done, but has not been started yet. If all goes to plan, the car will start up in the morning with no fuss and go off to get aligned and a shake down drive. I plan to head out after work tomorrow, so they have a full day to wrap things up.

I felt like I was in an episode of Orange County Choppers with the rush to the finish. After a few problems, the car was done(ish) about 5:30. Thankfully I was able to slip through the top of the roll cage and drove in the rain out for a quick alignment. At about 6:30, it went on the trailer. After a rainy three hour drive, I have arrived!

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. Thankfully, I have Saturday/Sunday to shake down the car.

Had a good day today. Croc and I arrived yesterday around 1:30pm. Beat all the bad weather. Cars were tucked in the garage and this morning as we went down for breakfast we see another Caterham. Jeff, is a new member at NJMP with a nice blue Superlight R Zetec. So three of us on track today. He can't stay and join us on Monday but we' hope to have him on board next year. Michael D and Jvbtte are due in tomorrow for the day. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Beer is in the fridge and nice and cold. We are parked in Garages 118 and 119 at Thunderbolt. See you when you get here.

Twas 4am at NJMP and all were asleep. Nothing was awake, not even a mouse.... Ok so I am awake for a phone call - might as well post an update.

Sunday was another brilliant very hot day. MichaelD joined us for the member day. Jack (JVbtte) was my co-driver passenger all day. Best times were first session as the track and air temp were cooler. As the day went on the track was getting greasier and the car was sliding around a lot more. Highlights of the day:

- me lapping Yellowss within a 25 min session. He said he slowed down...but just between us girls.... :D

- MichaelD demonstrating how to sink a Ferrari 458. Driver was taking girlfriend out to show her how his studliness could drive. Unfortunately you could see before he went out he had an attitude problem. And out of track he was going nuts to pass everything in sight (sounded awesome past me!). So Michael kept on the power through turn 4 with no brakes - something a seven, Miata or open wheeler can do but not others. So as Michael gets to turn 5 his rear vision mirror is filled with rotating Ferrari and related dust cloud. Quite impressive seeing the dust cloud from the pits. No sex for him (the Ferrari driver) last night :D

All the others came in last night so for today we have Steve, Jim, Tom, Mike, Mike, Michael, Ron, Stewart, and Karl driving with Jack in pit support role for today. Dinner last night was a rowdy event.

Internet here is useless so no photos until I get home.

Should be a good two days!

:bs: if being passed a half lap after the checkered flag and on the way to the paddock is a legit pass, then yep he lapped me. :jester:
