My first ride in, what I'll call a classic Se7en, was in Kitcat's old Crossflow-engined Caterham. As we accelerated up a steep hill near my house I was assaulted by the induction noise from the Webers - and said out loud "Oh! That's the 'blat'!" So now I know!

My question then is "What do you call going 'Out for a blat' when your Se7en doesn't 'blat'? My car has a Honda S2000 engine and while it makes some really fine music, there's not even a hint of a characteristic Se7en sound to it. So what do I call going out to enjoy the twisties, or how do I get it to sound like it's supposed to?

In any Seven-esque car, a pleasure drive is, I think always a "blat." Even in a Stalker.

Just as going somewhere in a conventional automobile is "going for a ride," even though riding went out with horses...

The "blat" terminology arose across the pond in UK, and they have stuck with it.

Now that is funny..:smilielol5:..I thought the word blat came from the sound of the bugs smashing on the windscreen like in the comic books of old......no that sound is splat now that I think of it...:jester:...:driving:

Blat, it's a bit of a British thing, a kind of loose slang for getting out & driving your car or bike fast, without any aim other than having fun... "I'm off out for a blat on the .... / in the.... dear, what time's dinner?"
