Alaskossie
timax, You have some good suggestions. I'm used to a windscreen with wind deflectors. I did not try to adjust the angle of Skip's Brooklands passenger screen to find a "sweet spot" -- didn't know that there might be one. I'll try that -- if Skip ever gives me a ride again..... Klasik-69
Have you considered a windscreen vs the brookland ? I put it on mine. Got the kit from Cat USA (Jon) in fiberglass but carbon fiber is also available. It included the two side mirrors, center mirror backing plates & most everything needed. Cost was around $400. It's slick and purposeful looking.
Alaskossie
I assume by "windscreen" you mean not the British "windscreen=windshield," but a non-glass, aerodynamic wind deflector (sometimes called an aeroscreen)? Yes, I have. But I need the ability to put up weather protection, as well as to have a defense against bird strikes.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I find far less buffeting with the Brooklands screens than the windscreen even with the wind wings attached. There is even less buffeting with the passenger side folded flat. Are you comparing it to your car with the windshield with side curtains in place? Mine gets very calm in that configuration but with the rear exit exhaust it sucks a lot of fumes in the cabin. You can still ride in my car but I might not let you drive it again. Alaskossie
Skip, No, comparing your car with my full windshield and plexiglas wind wings. Will you let me drive your Seven if I let you drive my Miata/LS7 (eventually....)?

You may has well have been driving a Hummer! Actually the half doors are my next mod. I think the brooklands with the half doors will be the best combination for me. glenntwincam
I'm a little late to this discussion , I think the retaining channels should be installed on every caterham wether std windscreen or brooklands . they add a lot of strength to mounting area on the scuttle & make a solid mechanical connection to the frame .. much better than a bolt thru thin aluminum with a fender washer & nut . yellowss7
Skip, I'm not home right now, and I don't have a pic on file, but the simple solution was to buy a piece of aluminum angle iron, that was thick enough to be stiff but not to stiff that I couldn't cut it easily with a dremel or hacksaw. (I don't have a workshop like some on here. ) I measured enough lenght to line up with the holes on the brookland band, and cut it off and rounded off the edges with the dremel. Drill a couple of holes and on for the mirror stalk. I ordered a couple of motorcycle style mirrors, from ebay that had a long enough stem and a big enough mirror. I think I paid 10 or 12 bucks for the pair. the aluminium angle piece fits flush against the brooklands band and provides a place to mount the mirrors. Found a pic that you can just make it out. I'll take a close up pick when I get back home. Tom
Croc
I can assure you Tom's mirrors work very well. He always manages to get out of my way when I come up to lap him again and again and.... Here is a better photo: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/NJMP%2006252012/DSC00443.jpg oh wait....maybe not  Lets try this one... http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/NJMP%2006252012/20120625_SCDA_NJM_IN1_1957.jpg Edited September 1, 2012 by Croc wrong photo pasted....oops! scannon
I used motorcycle mirrors which have a 10mm thread on them. I bored out the nutplates and rethreaded them to 10mm. The mirror stems take the place of the rear most bolt holding the mounting bracket to the cowl. I had to source new bolts for the front of the mounting bracket in 10mm as well as I wanted all four to be the same thread. To change back to a windscreen I just loosen the lock nut on the mirror stem and wind the mirror out, remove the other two bolts and its off. I can either use the mirrors with the windscreen or add two more bolts. Shown here with the windscreen in place. http://usa7s.com/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=2922&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1301722917 BTW, with these mirrors, the windscreen and wind wings, the buffeting was reduced from that of the windscreen and wind wings alone. BruceBowker
Anyone know what the thread size is of the 4 bolts that Caterham uses for the standard windshield mount? Bruce
scannon
8mm x 20mm length, 1.25 pitch with a button head is what comes with the Brooklands kit. I think that is the same diameter and pitch as a Caterham without the quick change bracket. That configuration just uses a fender washer and a nut. BruceBowker
Thanks. Just trying to think how I could make up something so I could use those mirrors with 10mm threads and still retain the thread size that Caterham uses. I have some ideas.
