car mats

I had a set of coco mats made by Natural Auto Products (800) 461-3533 cocomats.com, for my Cat 7 SV. They were custom made to a pattern I provided, and have held up very well, esp. compared to the "carpet" that came with the car. Something about lowering my 210 lbs into the cockpit with my size 12 shoes was hard on the mat, esp. driver's side.

My office building is carpeted with carpet squares with a rubber backing. I got a couple of extras and cuts mats to fit the Birkin. It only took a few minutes...they are fairy stiff and will not move when you are getting in or out.

wow this is great.. i will try looking at these after work.. thanks for your suggestion.. do you have any idea how much is the 1 set?

I just removed the mats that came with the car. What are they good for, anyway? Gravel collects under them and they are dead weight. There is a perfectly suitable aluminum floor.

I got the Caterham carpet pieces (one with a driver's side heel pad), and put three large nickel grommets at the corners and middle on each side.

 

Then I got 7Speed's carbon-fiber floor panels, and using threaded aluminum spacer posts/coupling standoff pieces (don't know what they are actually called), tied each carpet down to the c/f panel beneath. I also put a grommet at the trailing edge of each carpet/c/f panel and attached a short piece of nylon webbing as a pull-tab, so that I can remove the carpet panels for cleaning, etc.. The carpet stays in place nicely -- no bunching up at all.

 

Between the c/f panel and the ali floor is a thin piece of bituthene rubber roofing waterproofing (the builders call it "bitchathane") cut to fit, to eliminate any rattling or noise between the c/f panel and the ali floor.

 

The vertical remainder of the footwell/scuttle panels have removable carpet/insulation rectangles bolted to them, for heat insulation.

 

After hearing of one of the Sevens in the 2005 Brits' Tour running over an oilfield pipe wrench on the highway, I decided that having a c/f panel between me and the floor of the Seven might be a good idea -- I don't want any sharp foreign objects on the road slicing upward between my legs!

We all love a "stiff fairy" !

But, they have been "known to move when getting in or out".

Minimalist here....

I removed both the carpets and the floor; I rigged a couple of ankle support straps off the steering column and now get no hassle with the carpets or the floor, less weight and a cooler drive, but watch out for puddles and potholes more now.

Mine came with the rubber mats that are totally useless other than for bunching up under the pedals when you get in. They went out and a nice shiny aluminium floor it is.

 

BUT! When my wife gets in the car with white pants and the residues of the ali polish appear as black marks there is trouble. I speak from experience!:cuss:

 

OK, yes I did polish the floor!

Now that is radical. Reminds me of the Fred Flintstone car.

You can even save the reverse gear and push the car back with your feet.

xcarguy -- I guess you can call me a maximalist.....

 

And that's Okay. It's just that the older I've gotten, the more I've become a less-is-more kinda' guy when it comes to these types of cars. However, my Tundra does have a handy-dandy backup camera! :smash:

When I was stationed in Guam (dang, over 20 years ago) I had a beater 74 Mustang that I bought once I got there. The car was eat up with rust (salt air) and literally had no floor pans; I put plywood and cardboard over the 12”x12” holes. It rained there pretty much every day and I learned very quickly that, when I drove through standing water, to hold my feet up off of the floor (or lack of) long enough to allow the pedal area to fill up with water (tire spray—yep it was that strong) and drain back out. It was a quick process, sort of like a mini in-car tsunami. Wish I’d been smart enough to think of those ankle supports. :willy_nilly:
