Pe7e Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 If this quaint detail at the right rear of the valve cover employed hose clamps / jubilee clips, would it be a stock set-up or is this even more custom than it appears? I'm concerned that exploratory surgery may create the need for a "project". http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q554/Pe7ey/IMG_0292.jpg Pete
yellowss7 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 WOW!!! Now THAT is a a work of art. Bad art. :puke: Good luck Pete. There are right now issues and Winter projects. Don't screw with something that's not a safety issue during peak driving season if you don't; have to. Obviously, safety or reliability issues take precedence. Tom
Pe7e Posted May 11, 2013 Author Posted May 11, 2013 Thanks, Tom (The Smiley Meister ) ! Just the kind of sound advice I needed. Pete
jlumba81 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Small hose clamps would be better than those zip ties, unless that tee fitting is cracked.
Ian7 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 If your car was previously owned by someone that would do that, does it make you wonder what else he might have done that you're not seeing..... ?
DeanG Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Not something to stir confidence in the rest of the car.
blubarisax Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 What Caterham can't use a little tidying up? No worries, you'll be set by June 22nd!!!
jlumba81 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Might be a good idea to check the condition of those hoses. Check for hard spots that may indicate a deposit build up in the hose and for cracking.
rzempel Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 That's just part of the crankcase vent system. Non-critical and easy to sort out. One side of the "t" hose likely comes from the air/oil separator on the side of the block, while the other line heads for the intake manifold or a catch bottle. That wouldn't be stock, but not much of the original smog stuff is left stock in our cars.

Have to agree with rzempel and it looks like it might have been a roadside repair but if it is not then I would definitely be looking at all the car to make sure that there are no hidden gotchya's that would bit you while out on a drive like missing cotter pins and loose nuts and bolts. It is always a good idea to do a nut an bolt check on our cars as they do seem to get driven at the limit and besides it helps you learn about the vehicle. :driving:
