One of the people on our Miata.net forum was part of the development team for the GT.

Looks like he had a great job. He got to take GT prototypes home over night and weekends and as he says:

"But it was a lot of fun to be able to take them home before everyone else and stomp the crap out of them to make sure everything works."

I got a chance to drive one of the production GTs a few years ago on some deserted back roads. The owner gave me permission to wring it out a bit and I did. On one run through the gears I thought I was doing about 85 mph and when I looked over at the speedometer (it is on the passenger side of the dash panel) I discovered I was doing 145 mph in a 45 mph Zone. It is a great car and the nicest of any of the few supercars I have been lucky enough to drive.

I've been working with the OP trying to get a CD of all the shots so I can send them over to Jeff B. the GT Registrar for SAAC......Great pictures, none of which have ever been posted in public before

A friend of mine has one. It is so quiet in the go to jail speeds, unlike the 71 Miura S I had. The Miura S sounded like some one was trying to cut the engine in half with a chain saw at high RPM's. The GT 40 is one great car, I only drove it an hour, all way too fast, some local roads got new land speed records.
