Here in the small community of Parker’s Chapel (2,500 . . . on a good day), we locals often seek out opportunities with built-in entertainment value; not a lot to do here. Sometimes, these opportunities are presented by way of another’s misfortune, such as the case in the following video. Entergy (our local power provider) had contracted to have the trees bordering their power line easements ‘trimmed’ via airborne assault; performed through the utilization of a Hughes helicopter. During trimming, a coupler on the trimming mechanism (I don’t know its technical term) fractured. The pilot of the helicopter, from which the trimming mechanism was attached, found a suitable landing spot, put down and proceeded to replace the coupler. The new coupler didn’t fit quite as it should, so I offered up the use of the ‘man cave’, and tools, for some minor coupler modification. After a quick trip to the man cave, the new coupler was easily fitted in place and the helicopter readied for launch. I grabbed a bit of video and this is the end result. Enjoy. :smash:

So what is there to do near Crater of Diamond State Park? I see that it is not close by Parker’s Chapel but we can use some advice. We will be going there for a few days in the spring.

DeanG,

When you get up in that part of Arkansas, it's a different world. In that area, you've got the Ouachita National Forest and Albert Pike recreational area. Hot Springs, AR is a great place to visit with a great walking area downtown; lots of shops and mom and pop restaurants. Lake Hamilton is located in Hot Springs. There's the Little Missouri river for trout fishing, but it's only stocked at certain times of the year, and only just below the dam in Nashville, AR. And if you are going to be there in a 7, the roads in that area are '7' Heaven; Google the Pig Trail (hwy 23). Old Washington Historic National Park is close by; James Black, a local blacksmith, back in the day, is credited with making the original Bowie knife. Old Washington was also the Confederate Capital of Arkansas for a couple of years during the Civil War. Williams Tavern Restaurant is also there, if you like the taste of home cooking. If you get up to Petit Jean Mountain, the Museum of Automobiles would be worth a visit. This will get you started.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately we will be in a rental car not a 7.

DeanG,

If you have a chance, you may want to add Eureka Springs, AR in the mix. :seeya:
