Oscar
Looking for someone to finally diagnose my running issues. Webers were pulled apart and had a few internal failures so I replaced the pair thinking I can sell the warn out webers on ebay as rebuildable. New ignition module box thing and plugs. I suspect that its timing or the distributor at this point but I'm throwing up the white flag. Any trusted recommended mechanics in the NYC area? thanks Oscar

Croc
Another NYC area seven. :seeya: Not sure where you are exactly but a good Lotus mechanic who will be right at home on a Caterham is Ralph Stechow at RS Motorsports in Closter NJ (Exit 2 off the Palisades Parkway just over the GW Bridge). Phone is (201)750-0700 Shop is fairly small so you will need to book in rather than just turning up. I have used him before and would recommend him. Others on this forum have also used him with success.
Sabbot
It sounds like you've replaced most of the likely problem parts but if it's useful I have a spare complete supersprint with carbs, ingnition etc. sitting in the corner of my garage in NJ. You would be welcome to swap carbs or distributor to test and try to find the cure. But if it's not the carbs or ignition there's not much to go wrong apart from perhaps a sticking valve. jlumba81
Could be a fuel pump issue. Or bad battery/engine ground.
Oscar
The car has two new Webers that have had the floats set properly, in theory. The car has run recently but sounds like it was only on two cylinders and was promptly turned off after we noticed the coil getting extremely hot. I haven't checked the timing. visually the distributor looks fine. As of it getting off the car hauler in NYC the car is no longer sparking as the truck driver tried some quick start and it looked like no ignition had taken place. We pushed it off and its now sitting in the garage in Flushing Queens. This weekend I'll try anything and everything that is suggested so keep the possible fault/ fixes coming. Kitcat
So the engine turns over, just wont fire up?
bball7754
If your distributor has the Pertronix/Aldon ignitor in it (replaces points), it may be going south. My understanding is that they can be damaged if the ignition is left in the "on" position with engine not running. I had similar issues when my ignitor went bad. It would sporadically start missing, then clear up, then miss, etc. If you have one and it's old, probably worth just replacing. Steve
Oscar
Yup cranks fine just won't start and the coil gets incredibly hot in the process.
xflow7
I'm with Steve. If the coil's overheating that kind of sounds like a problem with the coil excitation circuit. I've no particular experience with failures of the Pertronix or Aldon ignitors, but if there's a transistor or something in there that's failed on, that could easily overheat the coil and/or cause weak/no spark. However, in your OP you said: ...New ignition module box thing...What did you mean by that? Do you have an MSD ignition or something? Edit: I wonder if another possibility is that you have a coil that is intended to be used with a ballast resistor, but none is fitted.
