Rear end unsettled

'91 Dedion car that jumps the rear sideways a bit at the 1st to 2nd shift under hard acceleration.

Wondering if this is normal or should I look for something amiss in the rear end?

Thanks for any thoughts,

Dave

Dave,

Not sure is you'll find your answer in this article, but just may be worth a read (something might jump off the page):

Also, a couple of questions; do you have a limited slip diff, open diff, etc., and, are you spinning the tire/tires during shifting? . . . . .

My current project car (2003 SV de dion) has this problem and it definitely should not if set up right. It steps the rear out to passenger side when giving her the beans. There are 3 likely possible causes for this:

1) suspension bushes need replacing on that side

2) shocks are failing on that side

3) de dion has bent/cracked or otherwise lost connection.

In my case it is 1) and 2) but 3) is not an unheard of possibility especially since you have a 1991 chassis and things wear over time.

Good luck!

We had a very bad hop in left hand corners in the race car and found completely dead shock on the right side of the car. Added to that, the rear was over sprung relative to the front so it was a handful on left hand corners.

Also check the alignment to insure the rear tires are tracking true with the fronts.
