Danielrx
I have a 2001 Caterham 1700 Super Sprint with clamshell fenders. It came with YOKAMAMA Advan 032 R 185/60R 14 82H tires that are about worn out. Can anyone tell me where I might find replacements. Tire Rack doesn't stock any 14 inch tires and Yokahama USA does't list them as available. Yokahama Europe does have them in medium and soft compounds. I would like to avoid having to ship tires from Europe. Thanks, Dan
ihckb2
Welcome to the 14 " Club Tire Rack still lists the Dunlop Direzza II in 185/60R/14. I've been looking for over a year for tires but I run 185 on front and 195 on rear, try and find matching tires for this combo. Almost ready to go to all seasons as I don't plan on getting rid of my Watanabe wheels anytime in the near future. Running Yokohama ES100 now. Just not enough demand for 14" performance in North America. I guess its time to import your own. Just be careful that the tires are DOT stamped or you could have insurance issues. breezy7
I went with the Falken Azenis 615 K as a replacement on my 7 and have a set on my Miata, not may choices with 14 inch wheels. I got mine from Vulcan Tire. http://www.vulcantire.com/cgi-bin/tiresearch.cgi?stock=626&f=azenis_rt615k_t.cst
coffee break
FWIW... My car had these on it when I bought it...(the previous set were the original and way too old, not worn out) SUMITOMO HTR A/S P01 185/60R14 M&S I think TIRE RACK has a rating on them. I am only doing dry street driving with no complaints.
O Racer
I track day my similar 7, mine a 91, my Kumho Victoracers finally gave up the ghost. I bit the bullet and went to Demon Tweeks and got a set of 185 55 14 Yoko Advan 048's, same tire that came on the Elise. Came to about $900 for 4 tires incl freight to the WC. Worth every penny Good luck
Dave W
I'm also a member of the 14 club. I had been runing ES-100s, and they where getting a little thin. And as mentioned no more 14" ES-100 in USA. So after looking for several weeks I found some Federals in 185-55s, and have say they are much better then the Yokohamas and lower priced. timax
14's on mine also. For the road I run 185/60/14 DUNLOP DIREZZA star spec 2's.......LOVE them. Nicer on "road" than the AO48's i had on before. Softer side walls allow the tire to work on rougher surfaces and the car dosnt skip around as much. Ultimate grip may be lower but i prefer them. Klasik-69
Maybe changing the wheels, although a bigger expense initially, may lessen your future tire purchase pain. I run 15" Miata pattern wheels with the 4X108 by 4X108 wheel adapters. My lightweight wheels cost about $95 each from SafeRacer. I run Toyo T1R 195-50R 15's.....not a great tire but reasonably priced with average grip & durability. For track use, I pull off the wheel adapters and use my 13" wheels. I realize this doesn't provide you with a cheap way out but after the initial investment, your costs will be less and your tire choice options much easier. I think you will also end with a better tire.
Danielrx
I got the Dunlop Direzza's from tire rack and went on the Blat in Los Gatos California last Saturday. The tires were almost brand new with just a few miles on them and they performed beautifully as I followed Sean through some very spirited twisty bits. I am really happy with the purchase at just 120.00 per tire from Tire Rack. If any of you can be in California for next years event, it is a GREAT time with some really super roads and fine people. 16 cars hauling A__ !! bigdog
I was looking at replacement Yoko A048's in 185/50/14 but no deal. One thing about the tire rack that I don't like is that when they don't have the exact size you requested. The site just says sorry. Rather than show other close sizes in the 14" range. To that end. I was searching for tire tests of the Toyo R888 and was referred to the tire rack and saw that the toyo comes in a 205/55/14 that works on 6-7" wide wheels. Which should be fine on the cats wheels.
