Another toyo tire thread

So the choice is between RA1's or R888's. The reviews on both are phenomenal and I've noticed lots here run the R 888's and some have run the RA1's . From those with experience what is the main differences when it comes down to choosing one versus the other?

Thanks

Leo

I've run both, and for street use, prefer the RA1. Although the R888 feels slightly grippier, the RA1 feels a little more lively; a little more engaging. According to Toyo the sidewall is 10% softer, which may be what I'm feeling (our cars need all the help they can get in that area) but regardless, the difference is noticeable to me. That said, if Toyo discontinued the RA1 tomorrow, I'd be happy to run the R888 again. They are both great tires.

I have run both on my Caterhams. Haven't noticed much difference. I think the R888 was meant to replace the RA1''s, but the RA1's had such a strong community of support, Toyo continued to make them. Basically, you cant go wrong with either. I think a full tread RA1 is a bit better in the rain than a R888. And RA1's never heat cycle out, they just keep getting better. Haven't put enough miles on my R888's to know abt their longevity.

I have R888's on my S1. Their two years old and were wearing well on the street.

I've been in the rain with them on the street and now on track, and they are what I

expected. Very Good. Our two days at NJMP put a lot wear on them, but that's OK because that's

why I bought them and the S1 was glued to the track all weekend....

Good Luck !!!!

I put abt 15K on my RA1s on my X-flow Cat, including lots of track use combined with aggressive street use. I also had them on a dual track/street Miata and got maybe 5K from them. They were going strong when I sold my X-flow Cat, tho visible tread was gone, they were slicks.

Have any of you that have run both that the R888's tend to grab / throw stones more than the RA1's? That seems to be a common coment on various performance car forums. Like R888 is a little " gummier ". Also a common comment os that the RA1's just seem to get better and better, never really wear out, great right up until the threads pop out.

Forgot to ask this question too :). Im still in the "pre-assembly stage", putting the car together rough (no powdercoat, no paint, etc..) and then have to take it all back apart once i know things are right... So will it hurt the tires not getting used per se for about a year? I know i need to find the newest date code i can when i buy my tires, rotate tires occasionally so they don't develop flat spots, but is there any other ill affects i need to worry about? Rims get ordered Monday :). Team dynamic race 1.2 in anthracite grey
