  1. Is this the same course that you just got FTD on (per the Chasing the Dragon thread elsewhere here), or is this a nearby road?
  2. Klassic: Any idea why a top pro rally team from Italy wld enter this little SCCA sanctioned mostly amateaur event? Does it have a long history? Is it particuarly challenging? It harldy is a Pikes Peak. In any event, it is amazing that they didn't win. And, in all honesty, sort of amazing that you were only 10'' off FTD in a street legal se7en. What tires were you running?
  3. Got mine as well yesterday, looks even better in person!
  4. Ya haven't lost yr touch: it is beautiful!
  5. Croc a wizzard? Well, maybe the Great Oz:).
  6. Looks a lot like Caterham's 40th year edition of the seven (vs the 40th anniv of the Caterham, I guess), issued in 1997. Apparently this 2013 version is already sold out.
  7. Sure are a lotta Mikes around here:). Anyhow, since Mike J asked: Mike G is running a GoPro3 White series, per the credit at the end of his vid. Not sure why his sound was so muffled/distorted. When I ran a remote in my boot it sounded pretty good. I recently bought a "wind proof" mic w/the fuzzy stuff. When I got it, the pkg said it was guaranteed to elim wind noise-up to 30 mph (a detail the ad had not mentioned). Mike M
  8. Sorry, I dont, Croc will have to chime in. It was fairly large, but light. He had a variety of them and he may be able to advise wh/brand/model did best. I think he was happiest w/my car's setup, but not sure, stay tuned.
  9. Thx guys, I will order the M10x1.5.
  10. Wow, you are a braver man than I: all I cld see was Armco!!! Did you pre-run it in yr Caterham, or tow vehicle, prior to the race so that you knew just where the road was going? Our buddy Croc has made a hobby of dialing in GoPro's, etc., on track and I am sure he'll have some wisdom. When he wired all our GoPros up for sound at NJMP, he placed the mic in the engine bay, right below the steering column. Mine was held in place w/copious amts of duct tape. That placement eliminated the wind noise that your mic was overwhelmed by (the only time I heard the mighty Zetec was as you were coasting to a stop at the end). The engine bay placement provided a nice, lush exhaust sound, so maybe try that nxt time. He also used a small, self powered mic, at least on my Cat.
  11. OK, I followed Martin's lead and ended up back where I started: does anyone know what thread size is used on the Caterham 6 sp? Martin's link asks that I choose from a lengthy list, starting with M8x1.25. I assume that's metric. It also has a list of thread sizes in inches. Any thots?
  12. I asked for one on yr website yesterday, if sold out, plz add me to the waiting list.
  13. Thx guys. Since it is a Caterham designed transmission, I assumed they wld use a combo of Wentworth and other obscure metrics and that nothing wld fit. I use a driving glove already. This car was driven in endurance races like the 25 hour of Thunderhill, apparently by REAL men, not wimps like me. Maybe they thot that hand pain wld keep the drivers more alert? My favorite suggestion from above is Blubarisax's, followed closely by Slomove's but I will probably opt for somerthing off Martin's list.
  14. I have a Caterham 6 sp transmission. After 3 recent days on the track I have a hole in the middle of my right hand from the abrasive nature of my stubby little gearshift handle, or knob. Also, I am still missing shifts and am hoping a longer handle will give me the needed leverage to put the shift lever where it suposed to go. So, does anyone have a source for a replacement? My Googling has lead nowhere, ditto my look at the Caterham home page/parts dept.
  15. The biggest downside to driving to events is potential for mechanical failure. But most such failures are minor and Dave has the skill to troubleshoot/fix stuff so I'd say go for it. Towing does solve potential problems but it comes with its own set of issues (gas mileage, storage costs, licensing/upkeep, etc). I have done it both ways and my fondest memories are of heading to the track in my se7en, with a small tool kit, jack, small cooler, duffle bag, etc.
  16. I'd seroiusly consider coming back for a Fall track day. I thot the LTW group had a nice vibe. I was less impressed w/TrackDaze, who we ran w/on Lightening Sat/Sun. I'd be happy to try them again. But, unless they do something to police the folks who REFUSE to give point bys (or who do, but then hold the line and accelerate to the curve, forcing the overtaking car off the track), TrackDaze's attendance will suffer. Point bys are just a matter of situational awareness. Within our little band of buddies, snafus were easily and casually resolved. But we had no control over the general population out there. I did send TrackDaze an e-mail outlining my concerns. Hopefully they will take them to heart. Yes, I left late moring after 2 heats for the 650 mile tow home. My 2nd session was cancelled after 2 laps when a car puked liquiid from turn 4-11, causing orther cars to spin off (Fortunately I got red-flagged at turn 3). Anyhow, I was happy to have missed the slick stuff and am ready to come back for more on-track fun.
  17. Also, a special se7ens merit badge to MichaelD for loaning his se7en to BBall after his rebuilt Crossflow died after a few laps. Hauling 2000 miles round trip for 5 laps was tough. Michael's generosity helped make it a bit more tolerable.
  18. Ditto Boxologist's comment. And many tow vehicles are 4x4 and great in the winter. Birkin claims its new, larger model is on its way to USA, perhaps a call to Dick Brink is in order? Based on personal experience, I wld not have them build it tho. It is a huge engineering exercise to switch from Zetec to Duratec wiring, ECU, exhaust on opposite side). Not impossible but a PITA. My Duratec Birkin was built that way. It was cooler, quieter. And very fast. Happy hunting.
  19. More photos. Karl's Caterham flag flew high and announced the whereabts of our little band of buddies. Tho, I found I cld just as easlily locate the group by followiong the sound of non-stop laughter to its source.
  20. Yes, I thot we se7en owners had it bad, then I saw the kart folks, jeez, we are amateaurs. Some of the kart guys could give Porsche Cup drivers a run for their $ when it comes to paddock set-up/gear.
  21. A+ experience. Special thx to Karl for donating a set of wheels/tires when mine corded, to Tom for his usual hospitality w/drinks food, humor under the se7en tent.Ron for the coffee this a.m, Croc for mik-ing all of our GoPros and being enabler in chief, along w/Tom and to David D, Stewart, Steve, Jeff and Michael D, for all the great conversation, humor and wonderful, drool worthy se7ens. Can't wait til nxt year.
  22. My favorite parts are your shifts-what a system! Not only fast, but you always get the right gear. And it looks to me like you are abt 20 mph faster thru the bowl, than last year.
  23. OK, mystery solved: There are two simultaneous track days at T-Bolt June 24 (I never saw that before). And naturally, I signed up for the wrong one. Am trying to sign up for this one now but so far, no luck. We shall see. I will do one, or the other or, maybe, both? I may not be the only one to have made this mistake so it mite get interesting that morning.
  24. I have heard abt "plowing the field", but now we have "picking the flowers!:)".
  25. When I ck who is resgistered, using the above link, Croc is there, along w/20-25 Elises and Exiges, but not me. When I go staight to MotorsportsReg and ck, I am listed, not Croc, and no Lotuses, all BMW's, Mustangs, etc. Are there 2 different run groups consisting of (mostly) Lotuses vs non-Lotuses?
