Ya know, truth is an absolute defense against allegations of libel (written) and slander (verbal). Of course there is no defense against spending countless $ defending a meritless lawsuit against you for writting or uttering the truth(:. In any event, happy to hear you are not stuck w/a car of questionable authenticity.

Front suspension wishbone similar but distinctly different.

A buyer shd expect the seller to honestly divulge title issues. Sounds like they didn't and that this isnt a hypothetical question? Even if it was bought "as is" that mite not protect the seller who knowingly hid issues of questionable provenance. Or, they mite say they sold the ''real'' Lotus, the others are the imposters. And, that any issues of serial #'s that were discovered post-sale cld just as easily been discovered pre-sale on the Lotus registry, so it's on the buyer. Mite be worth chatting w/a local lawyer. Mite be worth offering to make the seller's ID public. This is a small community. A regular seller of Lotus items shd be concerned with that type of publicity. There was a very nice "authentic" Lotus 7 referenced for sale here a while back (I think via a link, not directly), where the seller was up front abt issues of authenticity, serial # and therefore discounted price accordingly. THat's the way to do it.

I have never seen a video where the driver sawed the steering wheel back and forth so constantly and violently. It really, really did not want to go straight. Looks like a great car, but what a handful!

A 9000 rpm anything is nice! Must have been quite the motor. I have had an X-flow, Duratec and a Zetec se7en. Each had its plusses and minuses. Probably liked the Duratec best, liked X-flow's sound best and, as far as I can tell, even w/more power in the newer cars, I was just as fast in the X-flow as I seemed to be able to use the power more easily.

Per a post on another Forum, Johnty just lost a year long battle w/cancer. His son, who posted, commented on how much his tours in his se7en meant to him. Tough month for the members on the US tour in '05.

Jezz, Croc, highly impressive effort. I dont want to think abt the time commitment it took. I was very happy with the sound I got from the way you set up the GoPro on my car at last NJMP w/mic under bonnet taped down by steering column. I was also happy w/my own earlier set up, where I put my self powered cheapo mic (since expired) in a large wool sock and folded into a ball and taped it to the floor of the passenger side of the car.

Doing the pounds to $ conversion, it looks like approximately $2K for car/track for a day? Not totally crazy. Of course it's $1-2K to fly over etc., etc. But any track day that incudes a trip to Europe is worth considering. Significant others mite be willing to buy in and go shopping/museum touring for a day by themselves whilst you race, in return for some time in Europe? Definitely not totally crazy.

I will be on vacation that week.

The engine sounds thrashy the whole time to me, even from the start. It's not the deep barritone X-flow rasp. Probly just the mic placement. Any reason to suspect the temp gauge is off? Anyhow, deep condolences, stuff like this drains you mentally as much as financially.

Yes, I have the 7 pin connector factory tow pkg so this "should" be easy.

Any one have one, any recomendations? Prodigy has a couple that look interesting. The controller bolts to trailer tongue, trailer elec plugs into it and the contoller then plugs into tow vehicle's elec recepticle below bumper (where trailer elec cord ususally plugs in). All operated via a bluetooth remote that plugs into AC in cabin for its power. No splicing of harnesses etc. Supposed to offer progressive braking as needed. Anyone try this or other brake contollers that you are happy/unhappy with?

Lol!

The uphill looks like it goes straight up! Never saw a track that steep. What was the best driving tip you got? How did the 180 hp car (abt same as mine) compare to your mighty Cosworth? I'd add this to my bucket list but if I did it, my $ bucket wld be empty:). Enjoying vicarious participation tho. The track is quite amazing.

Karl: Yr definetly livin right, sure cudda been a lot worse, particuarly given you ran two more sessions after the original issue occured.

Yes, for a bit more than some recent se7ens have sold here, I cld be sporting 4 of those wheels, wh/I wld probably bend at my 1st track event:).
-
Thx for info. I will look into the wheel suppliers noted above. And Hoosier has so many tire options for 13" wheels that they are a likely source of backups for the Goodyears.
-
Truely sad. And riding a bicycle with friends seems like a relatively safe hobby. As John said, he died doing what he loved.
-
Tom: R u on 13" wheels and, if so, who is the mfg? Not many 13 inchers being made (I can find none, other than Rial noted above (for abt $$750 a pop). I sent an e-mail to Tire Rack, we'll see what they come up with.

I recently tried a set of Karl's (Blubarisax's) Rial(?) 13" wheels with 245x13 Avon R500's on the back and 205's on the front and they were great tho expensive. Does any other wheel tire combo fit well? I have two sets of race wheels shod with cantilvered Goodyear slicks. They are great but wear out after 2-3 track events, wh/gets expensive. So I am looking for something that wears better. Some time ago I bought Karl's like-new 15" Caterham wheels. However, the Toyo R888s (235x50-15) I bought dont fit on the back, tho the 195s I bought for the front do. But the 195s dont come close on the front and there are no 15' Toyo tires that do. So, I cld run the Toyo R888 195x15's on the back and go to a 13" wheel tire combo up front. Any recommendations? I have a staggered set up now with huge rear slicks and much smaller slicks up front and I'd like to maintain that type of set up and not go "all square" which wld translate to all small. The Caterham bolt pattern is 4x108 and offest is apparently variable as the Caterham-only Rials have several offest choices. I may just emulate Karl, or buy his, just looking for any alternatives that have worked for others. I cld probably buy a bigger front cycle wing set up from Caterham also, they seem to come in various sizes (No Tom, I am not going to the classic fender set up, even tho that allows you to fit the widest tires ever seen on the front of a Caterham:)). P.S. The Caterham parts store shows its various 13" wheels are basically out of stock and rumor has it that their wheel manufacturer has gone bankrupt.

I weighed my 7 today. She's a Heifer

Alaskossie: Hopefully a pic is worth aq 1000 words, see below. There is no boot, it's all fuel cell. This is a dedicated track car, no pretense of being streetable. -

It was built as an endurance racer-took 3rd overall at 25 hours at Thunderhill by prior owner and his team one year. Excellent gas mileage/large tank relative to the cars behind it helped as so many fewer pit stops. Also easier on brake pads, brakes, tires, etc., due to relative lightness. -

Mine got weighed yesterday in the course of being aligned; 1402 lbs (with the 21 gallon tank full). Subtract that approximately 125 lbs of fuel and it's 1277, wh/given the full cage, is about right. -
At an auto-X the guy on the start line in front of me had forgotten to tighten the bolts on one of his wheels. So when he dropped the clutch, his V8 spun the wheel right off and up into the air, (how high will it go?). I watched it in wonder from the strapped in confines of my Miata, trapped from getting out or moving my vehicle. Fortunately it missed me and everyone else when it finally came down. Not remotely as exciting as MoPho's brush with an inglorious end, but I can still see that spining wheel floating high above me, tho it was 15+ years ago.

Look at that "anonymous" photographer run. Fortunately he was protected by the FIA reflector vest:).
