  1. Amazon. Ask and Bezos will provide.
  2. I use the gel seat from Costco. Fits the Caterham perfectly. I used to have trouble driving for more than half an hour, but now I have zero issues.
  3. I've got a 30 inseam, and I am probably about an inch shorter than ideal for my bench seat S3. My Dad's a 28, and he really can't comfortably drive the car. A couple of inches matters a lot. But my pedals are in middle position. Does anyone have the inseam drop between pedal positions? If you can pick up two inches, you'd probably be ok.
  4. Some say, that when one vendor raises the price of a common product, the other vendors will endeavor to offer the equivalent good at a lesser price above cost plus reasonable costs to sell. Edited...or sometimes vendors will offer to sell at below cost, depending on circumstance. More cars coming out.
  5. Egan forgot to take his car home when he retired. ...actually, I believe it is in Houston now.
  6. 8 gallons. About 20 per gallon on highway. ZX3 Zetec with the bells and such. Spirited on the road driving, about 13-15 mpg.
  7. Neat to see it! Link to article. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-reviews/2001-caterham-super-seven?click=main_sr Egan mentioned in one of his last articles that given the choice for a car that would remain forever enjoyable to work on, as well as drive, he'd pick either an MGB or Lotus 7. Smart man.
  8. And then if my $15 test doesn't pan out, a new gauge is probably in order. I'll simply have to decide if I want it to say Caterham in little letters on the face.
  9. Interestingly, when I tried that grounding method it simply stuck my temperature gauge needle to the max upon receiving electricity from the car. My current sender does appear to be working, just in the wrong range for the gauge. I found a couple of sources for generic blade terminal senders in various resistance ranges. About a week before that I found the technical specs on the resistance range of stock two pin Ford senders for Zetec engines. Once I re-marry the two sources of info together, I'll spend the $15 to see if it's a fix. But work and little league are conspiring to keep me away from the 7 for another week or two.
  10. I am quite enjoying my pre-owned Zetec, which will suffer very little from any noticeable depreciation. I convinced my wife that I had simply purchased the opportunity to perform a never ending stream of maintenance and upgrades, which is likely true of newer and older cars alike. But the rich often lack the patience and interest in the cars required to find a quality used machine. Their $70k trophy will be my affordable toy in a few years after they they lose interest. Caterham makes money, the rich enjoy their Simon Cowell moment, and enthusiasts are treated to a wealth of cast-aside super models. We all win.
  11. That looks good! I'll see if I can track down the resistance ranges to see if will will come in close. Thank you.
  12. I'd like to keep the sender electric, and just plug it into the loom I have. Problem is finding an electric sender with the right terminal for the connector on my loom. I don't think I can re-wire the connector for a two blade...hmm, or can I?
  13. That's a good thought. If I can find a mechanical that will fit in a Caterham dash, I might just discard the original. What's got me so puzzled is how the connector on the loom doesn't match any sender that I can find for the engine, other than the one that is currently installed. I've compared two 80 degree thermostats, and the gauge is consistent between them. Fans cycle in and out normally after the thermostat opens. I'd check what the Pectel ECU thinks the temperature is, but no software/no connector.
  14. The gauge did not enjoy the ground. It just pegged the gauge to max as soon as the car started. The gauge is consistent, just off. Since I can't find a similar part, my guess is that it was replaced with something not calibrated to the Caterham gauge in order to accommodate the connector that came with the loom. I can probably live with it. I'll just turn my head to the left a little when I look at it.
  15. I'll clean it up, and will run a ground to it. Could that be throwing off the resistance reading to the gauge?
  16. I've been dealing with a temperature gauge that consistently reads cold. I don't believe the engine is actually running cold, and need a part number for the lower coolant temperature sender on a ZX3 Zetec. I believe the issue is only affecting my viewing of the temperature gauge. I believe the Pectel T2 is getting the correct temperature from the upper sender. I've found plenty of lower gauge senders on the internet, but they are all two blade (not confusing the two pin top sensor for the bottom sensor). The wire from my gauge is only a single blade female connector to a single blade sender. I did see a comment in a post that mentioned the lower sender was replaced in production with a two blade model, the latter of which I can find many examples for sale on the internet. I can't find a single blade model, although I can't discount the potential that one is in front of my nose.
  17. All welded up. Not a pretty weld, but everything is holding nicely. I had to file about 1/16 of an inch off one of the bolt holes to get everything lined up. Replaced the mounting rubber on both sides while I was at it. It's nice not to have the exhaust banging on the body work. Many thanks all.
  18. Indeed, an odd tone from someone looking to buy a car. However, you can get a feel for sales prices from this website. Although the final price isn't listed, you can get an idea of the price based on the time it goes from posted to sold especially when the owner lowers the prices. Obviously there are more variables to price than that, but it does help narrow down your range a bit. And since I'm a purchaser of a fifteen year old car that didn't see road duty very often, I'll echo Kitcat's comments. I'm on month nine of going through everything in detail, and replacing what needs replacing, and catching up on maintenance. Lots of stuff just gets old when not used. But that was actually a selling point for me. I needed a project.
  19. I see. The angle threw me off. Nice seats at nice price, but I have to pass. Many thanks.
  20. Do they come up as high as the back of your head? I've got benches, and I'm looking for seats to keep my head off my FIA roll bar.
  21. 43. My pop had a Lotus 7 in the late 60's, early 70's, and he told me he always regretted selling it. He still has pictures of it hanging in his garage. So when the money, kids, garage space, and wife's blessing came into alignment, I dove in. It's been everything I've ever wanted from a sports car. It's not just the speed or the handling. It's a pure car that I'm using to teach my young boy about how cars work. Now he's just as sick as I am. An experience I'd never trade.
  22. Thank you very much.
  23. I also have the same setup with a Pectel T2, and am also curious about the injector issue. Many thanks in advance for the info.
  24. Happened on a friends Jeep Cherokee. Window just gave up in a hurry. If there is no glue, like on a windshield, tempered glass turns to sand when stressed. Given the number of people who have had it happen, I'd guess a small flaw during the tempering process. Added: Jeep replaced it without a comment. I think sometimes "it just happens".
  25. There are many of us who post rarely, but read intently, and I'll miss Terry's insight. Cheers.
