  1. Oh yeah. I meant, "Something for the South African track mob." Merry Christmas, anyway. -Mark
  2. Something for the track mob. $23k racer http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOTUS-BIRKIN-S2-RACE-CAR-/172038990238?forcerrptr=true&hash=item280e52a99e:g:E60AAOSwSHZWexEi&item=172038990238
  3. Nice Lotus Seven on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-/281891348354?forcerrptr=true&hash=item41a2089f82:g:4TsAAOSwstxVCcYS&item=281891348354
  4. "Who makes the wheels on this car? I would not mind a set for the Holden... Croc, Who knows, but they look like steel wheels. Check any Nascar/roundy-round/oval racing magazine. Steel race wheels are fairly light and very cheap. I looked at some a few years ago, so dated info - 15 inch were about 18 pounds, strong, and $65. They will make any layout you want for that.
  5. "Have you ever looked at something and wondered where you have seen it before? Well thats this car. Its been on the forum at some point in its history but I have a mental blank as to when (I think it was an OH car?). Reminds me of Dick Brink's garage wall? 2002 Birkin. Zetec with throttle bodies. Unusual mix of polished ali, painted metal in yellow and green fiberglass. Looks very nice. Owner says he drives it from FL to KY for car shows so big kudos there. Asking $34900 on Ebay starting bid with no bids. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replica-Kit-...m=191753051851 Anyone know the car? Owner is a USA7s forum member?" Croc, Yes he is a forum person. Look at the rear photo of the tall rollbar to see the USA7s sticker. I don't know if he wants me to out him. I recognized the tall roll bar because it is now on my Birkin. I know it is a cosmetic challenge, but I just thought the roll bar should extend higher than the driver's head. -Mark
  6. NOT SEVEN RELATED, but I don't care you you are. If you have any fondness or respect for classic English engineering, this may make you cry: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Other-Makes-Jaguar-XKE-Custom/252154792576?_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150805074509%26meid%3D2351400593674ae29f9bb9bfa91a8abc%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D19%26rkt%3D19%26sd%3D121808843664 (Found as an Ebay suggestion looking at the Staulker.)

Once it's a bit further along, I intend to post some photos, and I look forward to some good natured ribbing. I especially want to speak for all of us by expressing appreciation for Croc's ongoing service in researching and posting so many fascinating cars and occasionally making useful and entertaining comments. A highlight of every weekend! Many thanks! You should have kept the Miata Thant's what my wife says. "You should have kept the Miata ", but without the smiley face. And about the good natured ribbing, I may work up to posting my old, (#410), shop-worn Birkin photos some day. Be gentle, lads.
  8. Croc, Take a deep breath. It seems one of the tirade emails got under your skin: "Oh and for the dealer who was critical on my views of his car's sale price and emailed me personally off-forum, I would point out that if your car is under sale for a long period and has not sold then I conclude one or more of several things: 1) The seller .... 2) The price ... 3) The car ... 4) ... " I always say, when something doesn't sell in a reasonable time, there is SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ...(CAR, HOUSE. ETC) And, no matter what is wrong with it, there is a buyer out there. What is Really wrong with it is the PRICE. Relax. The real (paid) members are with you.
  9. Blue Stalker near Dallas, Texas. http://easttexas.craigslist.org/cto/5241471454.html http://images.craigslist.org/00x0x_elvAiyD6F3r_600x450.jpg
  10. It ain't broke. Some people need a reality check as to price or desirability. Leave it as is.
  11. Point well taken, Lotusman. And the nose is not right. But, for the current bid of $3,250, it looks like a lot of fun for the change.
  12. http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1952-lotus-6-altair-racer-tribute/ Lovely Lotus 6 replica. Might want to change the engine, though. Can't think what a 3 cyl. thru a supertrapp sounds like. Nice enough. At the moment only bid to $1,100 !! But wait! Great old Datsun pick-up with no bid. (Forgive me, I am Texan.)
  13. This was up previously. May be motivated now, as the Arizona Series I racer popped up on the Dallas site: http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/5210426207.html
  14. Now Croc, let's be charitable. Overpriced crappy clone chassis back for what seems like the third year http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/5142851802.html They think the word "museum" is worth an extra zero. I recall, originally, the "museum" had it donated and did not want it. Take off the zero and just under $500 would look OK. One supposes the purple Storker must be sold by now! Mark
  15. CAswede, "For reference, I would add that my size 11 E's fit fine in an S-3 with a cheap pair of Puma driving shoes. Just keep a pair of walking shoes in the boot." It is true. I wear 11.5 - 12 shoes, depending on the shoe. I can NOT drive the Birkin in anything by race slippers or skinny driving shoes. No street shoes, no tennis shoes. As I recall, Mr. Chapman was an 8.5. It is not a big problem. Change shoes anot throw the others in the boot.
  16. Don't scare off the newbees. Where there is a will there's a way. I have a (ahem) 42 inch waist and am perfectly snug and comfortable in my old (86-89) Birkin. Those are pretty much the S3 design. Really tight was a Renault R5-Turbo (mid engine job) rally car with a seat made for the typical 145 pound race driver. At the time I was probably 200 lb., 36-38" and it took 20 minutes to hit bottom every time I got in! Then bliss. Those are lovely cars.
  17. Re: 2012 Caterham Superlight R400 SV - well optioned How can you call that nicely optioned when he doesn't even say iIF it has tail lights?
  18. It will be very interesting to see what BAT can get for it. Looks like a nice piece. BAT auctions now seem to be the place to sell certain cars, like low miles Miatas.
  19. Old school. Real deal. Bet ONE liter can be fun. Series One http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Other-race-prepared-/161681781780?forcerrptr=true&hash=item25a4fc3414&item=161681781780
  20. Do NOT be afraid of the RHD. I have an early RHD Birkin. I have driven a couple RHD cars before in the US. (GT-40, Postal Jeep, don't ask) Once you are rolling, it makes no difference, assuming you look ahead anyway. The only disadvantage to RHD in the US has disappeared, at least in Texas. Used to be, you could not see if waiting to make a left turn with a vehicle on the opposite left turn lane. Now that is not an issue, since everyone else on the road insists on driving a Light Duty Truck as a passenger vehicle. You could be driving LHD and you still can't see to pull out safely. RHD is a non-issue, and a great conversation point.
  21. If you have never attended the 500, I highly recommend it. It was also a great venue for F1. The city really knows how to do things right. The traffic is very well managed. For the 500 & F1, we took buses, and it was the best way in and out. Somebody have fun!
  22. Lovely photo on Bring a Trailer. http://bringatrailer.com/2015/03/26/1961-lotus-super-seven/ This 1961 Lotus Super Seven runs a Cosworth spec Ford 1500 four and 4-speed Quaife gearbox, the seller further describing it as a period-correct build with 120 HP on tap. Race ready, it’s sold with a CVAR logbook but remains street licensed and road legal. We dig the classic, polished sheet metal/green/yellow/red color combo, and Brooklands screens and Minilites are also very good choices. Find it here on Hemmings in San Antonio, Texas for $33,900.
  23. Duane, You're breaking my heart, man. We all have our highs and lows, and I can chart most of mine through the cars around. Best wishes for the future, and I hope the car sells well.
  24. So, another site to bookmark. Must not be on Croc's webb crawler's radar. Nice tip, Mr. Urfer.
