PS Isn't this supposed to be in the mid-atlantic section? not the southeast section?
-
Steve, you are of course more than welcome to pitch a tent in the yard, but there should be an ample number of beds available inside the house in the event you would rather sleep under a roof. BTW, my schedule has been adjusted slightly and I will be coming up on Sunday midmorning to pick up my truck. I'm not sure if you guys will still be around, but I may see you. Ary

I was sitting in class bored yesterday browsing the board and stumbled on this. Now I sit in the front row, dead center in front of the Professor's podium. I was having SERIOUS problems containing my laughter. I almost had to leave the room

Heck no, that turns a 3 hour trip into a 5 hour trip. I take 460 West to 219 and take 219 North all the way to snowshoe. I can run it in my Cruiser w/o a trailer in 2.5 hours if I'm in a hurry, 3.0 at normal pace, and 3.5 w/ the trailer. It's pretty much windy roads the whole way once you get off of 460. There's a slightly different route that's a little straigther but adds 10 miles. If you're interested I can look up the rt numbers(don't recall them off the top of my head). Where are you trying to ditch the truck/trailer? I can find you a place here in Blacksburg, and there's plenty of room at the house at Snowshoe, in between I dunno what to tell you.

I really wish I could make it up there that weekend guys, you're tempting me to skip town the second the game is over, but I'll probably be a bit too intoxicated for that :blueangel: I am going up there this weekend though and will do a bit of recon in regards to what will be open restaurant wise. I'll also be removing my truck from the shop and cleaning it up a bit so you should be able to fit 3 sevens in there nose to tail, possibly 4 if you really cram them in. As far as where to eat, I would recommend the Foxfire over the Junction, although it is slightly pricier, the food and service are MUCH better. On the other hand, Kabob at the house is always a tasty option and much more :grouphug: oriented I think. Looking forward to the stories from this blat

Bob/all, my shop is located in the basement of the house where Mazda will be staying. That includes my MIG welder, press, vice, etc. Basically all the "shop" type stuff you would want. Only thing not there are basic hand tools as those live in my truck. You are all welcome to use it if necessary. Just an FYI in case it's any consolation. Ary

I know absolutely no motorsports history, so you lost me there, but the whole time all I was thinking "Come on, get out of the way, your Expedition is too slow through the corners and the only reason I can't pass you is 'cause you open up the V8 in the straights." Now let's face it, we were just a couple of bums pushing our 6k lbs SUV's to the limits trying to keep up with Steve T while he was on a "leisurely ride"
-
Bob, I'm good, but there's no way I was keeping up with you in reverse. I think it was my headlights you couldn't lose :bigears:

Yes, the cruiser is still running fine :knockonwood: and the pickup's headgasket has been R&R'ed although I'm still having cooling problems. :grrr: I'll see ya tonight Jim
-
Shhhh Actually I'm not sure if I'll make it up unfortunately. We play Ohio that weekend at home. We'll see though, maybe I'll run up for the evening and be there Sunday. Ary

What other projects have you had?
Arya Ebrahimi replied to WestTexasS2K's topic in General Sevens Discussion
First: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/arebrahi/Publicly%20accessable%20files/Jeep%20pictures/DSC02251.JPG 2001 Jeep Cherokee It was acquired stock w/ 6 miles on it and built up over 3.5 years. Mods included complete custom suspension, axle swaps, armor, etc. Sold it to pay for school. Second: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/arebrahi/Publicly%20accessable%20files/Toyota%20buildup/2-11-07f%20002.jpg 1985 Toyota Pickup Acquired as a basket case truck for $700. I R&Red the entire rear half of the frame, changed the front suspension from IFS to solid axle. Redid the rear suspension with 1/2 ton Chevy springs, built the tube bed for it, R&Red the headgasket/timing chain, etc. I have finally gotten it on the road and hopefully will have it off the road in a few weeks. Third: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/arebrahi/F-Toy%20006.jpg This is a 1987 Toyota 4runner chassis with a custom fabricated tube chassis that will be mounted on top. This is another rockcrawler build. The tube chassis/toyota drivetrain/frame is designed to compete in a spec class of rockcrawling called Formula Toy. I hope to get started on this project in the next few months, but in the mean time I am still acquireing parts. Here is an example of a completed car: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/mobil1syn/werock-donner-07/IMG_1076.jpg After the F-toy is completed I am thinking of building a locost or ratrod. Can you tell I like building?? -
Did you build that car or restore it? Do you know if a reproduction body exists complete or in kit form?

Anybody Driven through Glacier N.P in Montana?
Arya Ebrahimi replied to SR27.Seth's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I haven't personally, but last time my dad was there he got a nice ticket for 55 in a 40. Apparently in MT you can pay the officer directly which he did. Sounds a little sketchy to me, but it never showed up on driving record, so who knows. So I would say watch your speed, it would seem the rangers don't mess around much. Ary -
I just got a call from Robbinsville

I think it was a certain PAIR of Mr. Ebrahimis LOL -
Not to rain on the parade, but everyone I've talked to in regards to this specific towing setup recommended going with a tandem axle. It's much easier on the trailer(more tires to distribute load) and the tow vehicle(less tongue weight). Also, who wants to have a car trailer that can only haul a Rotus? No offense, but if I were gonna plop down that much change for a trailer, I'd like to be able to use it for other things, including possibly other cars(taking the 'Vette to the track?). My .02
-
You're saying you can find standard steel car haulers for less than $1k? Does that include brakes or anything? That's CHEAP
-
So all my fuel, meals, and incidentals will be covered? Is that what you're telling me? http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif BTW, assuming someone is willing to put up their trailer(hopefully w/ a winch on the front) I can play tow truck too. Also, what is your expected attendance?
-
Two more leads for steel trailers: www.bjtrailers.com www.kaufmantrailers.com Both were recommended by other forums I'm on. If you guys negotiate a discounted bulk rate from a supplier and they are willing to sell a standard "off the shelf" 16' tandem axle car hauler at the discounted rate, I may be in for one. Gonna need one soon to pull the buggy. Ary

Man, I saw the pic above about crossing the double line and was trying to figure out what the big deal is. I mean hell, he's only a tire width's distance over the line. If the bikers are gonna get that upset over it, then oh well. Then I realized about halfway through reading the Lotus thread that they are on the complete other side of the road. For some reason I saw Lotus's and though of left hand lane driving DOH! After some brief discussions with Mazda and Al, it looks like I'm in the running for the "official chase truck" title, assuming my work schedule pans out. I'm really excited about this opportunity as it will be my first significant experience with a car based enthusiast event. All of my previous experience has been around 4x4 rally's, although I suspect the good natured community atmosphere will be the same. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smile5.gif

I posted some threads on some other forums I'm on, and someone referred me to the following site: www.alumaklm.com I think the 7814S is the trailer that would be best for you guys after browsing around the site. Found here: http://www.alumaklm.com/sections/products/template_new.php?product_id=18&product_category=5 I didn't find any prices posted on their website, but I figured I'd pass this along.Arya Ebrahimi2006-11-05 18:57:50

Al/Mazda, thanks for stopping to visit. Al, it was nice to meet you. It's always fun to just chat with another car guy. I really hope I will be able to make the trip in July, as I think it will be a fantastic time for all. BTW, as far as meal payment. At every 4x4 rally I've ever been involved with, they charged a flat rate, if you made it to the meals, great, if not, too bad. It really encourages you to be a part of the group as well as greatly reduces the headaches for those in the administrative roll. Ary

How are you going to address the marks in the finish on the edges from the tooling when it comes time to powdercoat? I would think a little bondo and paint would be the better option. In fact I would probably rattle can it, as they are sure to be subject to rock chips and powdercoat is very difficult to touch-up. I would also coat the underside/inside w/ rubberized undercoating(also available in a spray can) to lessen the sound of rocks hitting the inside of the fender. It will also provide some impact resistance if a stray piece of gravel jumps up and hits the inside of the fender, it shouldn't leave a dent.
-
On the other hand, if you plan to come with Erica, getting a separate room is probably a good idea http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/rofl.gif Actually, we are going to be looking for an official tool truck to help any stranded cars, so if you're interested in that role, that'd be good. Assuming I can get off work, I would love to fill that roll. As we all know it seems I like working on my cars more than driving them lately http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/ack2.gifhttp://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif

Looks like a ton of fun. Any particular reason you didn't take the 'vette? BTW, Mazda, do you have an open seat for the event?? I wouldn't mind going if work permits http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/yesnod.gif
