  1. The potential damage to one's self is rather limited, and the number of injuries is small. In fact I don't think I've ever been around when an injury has occurred. Now damage to one's vehicle is guaranteed and is part of the game. Build it, Wheel it, Break it, repeat. It's a different philosophy, but you see a lot of evolution in peoples' vehicles over the years. The things you listed off are all very nice parts. I used to have an air locker in my old Jeep, I will be install Old Man Emu(OME) springs in my land cruiser soon, and bead locks on my pickup. If you'd like explanations I'd be happy to share
  2. The 4-wheeling club down at Virginia Tech(of which I am a member and previous officer) put together a memorial/benefit trail ride this past weekend in Gore, VA(near Winchester). Approximately 70 rigs showed up for some of the best rockcrawling on the east coast. Here are some pics to cock your head at('cause I don't expect many of you to understand  ) My truck http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1283129212_VTMTR Big Dogs 001 (Medium).jpg A friend's truck http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1178110121_VTMTR Big Dogs 002 (Medium).jpg More of mine http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/288885575_VTMTR Big Dogs 005 (Medium).jpg Friend's again http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/739549916_VTMTR Big Dogs 010 (Medium).jpg The goods that I got donated for the raffle. We raised ~$1500 which will be donated to the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1652321081_VTMTR Big Dogs 011 (Medium).jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1916168432_VTMTR Big Dogs 016 (Medium).jpg Just a random shot that I find somewhat artistic for some reason. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1544937609_VTMTR Big Dogs 027 (Medium).jpg Figured you guys might like a little peak into the world of hardcore 4-wheeling/rockcrawling. Didn't break anything this weekend, and put the truck through quite a bit of abuse. I'm trying to get Mazda to come with me next time to see what he's missing
  3. What sort of handling quirks does the inability to lean the bike around corners introduce? PS, are you looking for any 24 year olds to adopt?
  4. Of course But he's not interested for some reason. I don't really get it
  5. Yeah, with my hobby towing becomes a necessity at some point. I'm on the brink of that now. I *could* drive my truck on the street, but I'd rather not worry about breaking it and then having to find a way to drive it home. Towing just ups the fun factor for the weekend Besides, modern diesels can be modded so easily, they will make 400+ HP and 800+ FT-LBS with relatively simple mods(exhaust, chip, intake). Tow-rigs in and of themselves can become another expensive hobby :ack: Who wouldn't love to smoke Mustangs, Camaros, Boxsters, ricers, etc in a Crew-cab long bed truck
  6. The fact that there are towing forums? or the fact that it was posted?
  7. That was posted on a towing forum I read. Crazy how easily the canopy fell down. The guy and his grandson both walked away fine.
  8. lol, I'm not sure what day it was, but it was fun :ack:
  9. He asked if you lost your grill I believe?
  10. Very true. Agreed. In this case however, I do not feel a wise decision was made. I'm of the opinion a deal is a deal, and in this situation, with terms being agreed to and consideration being paid, I believe shiva has legal rights, should he desire to excercise them.
  11. Didn't say exactly how he died. You're not kidding, my mom just turned 60 3 days ago and I just graduated college, talk about making you think!
  12. You forgot the long space after your post with the "Just kidding" at the bottom
  13. You can find one that fits, or just mod one till you fit. I chose the latter
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpKHzxgMCXg
  15. I'm sorry, but WTF are you guys talking about?
  16. Let's not forget my multiple burn incidents, but who's counting anyway?
  17. In my hobby(rockcrawling) broken axle shafts are common. I wonder if that burst failure isn't from the shaft breaking torsionally and then getting bound up somewhere. OR it could have been a recoil type situation where the release from torsional failure shocked the rest of the system causing the breakage.
  18. Wouldn't that be an L67 since it has the blower on it? or did you swap the blower onto an NA block?
  19. It was very rewarding, and so far no major leaks from my first attempt at headers. I'm happy
  20. Loren, people are seeing 60-65mpg out of the TDIs in Jettas(with some mods), you might be able to see 80 in an ultralight. BTW, I just returned from SoCal and gas is the same price here(MD) as there much to my surprise. Regular is 3.85-4.05 depending on station location Premium is 4.15-4.25 " " " " I don't recall what Diesel is here, but in CA I seem to recall it being around $5.25.
  21. Bob, I fear the bender you bought will be no better than the "pipe kinker" (as they're affectionately known in the fabrication world) that you can buy at Harbor Freight. I will soon have my JD2 bender in MD though. If you need any structurally critical bends done, I will be more than happy to help you out. That goes for anyone. I've been trying to work out a pricing structure for bending things for people. I'm thinking $20/bend with the price getting cheaper if you need multiple bends etc. Currently I have a 1" die and a 1.75" die, but will be acquiring more as needed. If any of you need things bent around the country let me know. There's a fairly active bunch of fabricators on pirate4x4.com (where the bending tutorial is hosted) and I may be able to find someone in your area that can help you out. Ary
  22. Holy crap!
  23. Bob, have you flat towed before for any length of time/distance? I think you should try it before committing to 4000 miles of it. I've done it twice, both times in a pinch, and I truly hate it. Granted the 7 won't push the expedition around, but the inability to back up or make sharp turns really makes traveling a PITA.
  24. We'll see what it's like at the end of May
