@JohnCh Thank you for the valiant effort! I'll be an impartial observer in this process and see if you and others like it. I obviously do! Question however. Images show a comment count but I don't have an option to comment on a picture when I click it? There is also a star rating that shows up for everybody's pictures other than Crocs but I can't click any of the stars? Maybe it's a permission thing.

Thank you for the explanation. I support a survey and more opinions. We all know that there are about 3 types of users. 1) Lurkers - not really quantifiable or useful group statistically, unless you're trying to monetize the site (which you're not) 2) Casual users - registered long time users who post occasionally as it fits their needs 3) Regulars - contribute to most conversations, go out of their way to post and share threads, have their own threads etc Relationship with group 2 is opportunistic. They use the forum as a tool when they need something (like a bad friend), otherwise they don't really have interest Group 3 is the primary group. It's small but it's what keeps the forum going. Without them lurkers have no interest as there isn't new content and casual users don't use it anymore because there aren't enough regulars here to make it a useful tool. In my eyes you have to appease to regulars for this type of community. Maintain however many you got, and appeal to new ones as you inevitably lose old ones with people selling cars or losing interest in visiting Have the engagement gone down or up over the years? Thread counts/posts? That was my primary rubric of success in the past

@JohnCh I hear you. I'm not dying on a particular hill for anything, just throwing ideas out there that I've had experience with. Fair points with the text link and descriptors. This works. And it works well. I wouldn't even think of suggesting anything if I didn't see inklings of a drive to get more out there and being there myself a long time ago. 7's Facebook group/posts, Instagram account, adding the gallery at all, having a tech database/section are all things that constitute as being more "more" than just a forum. Implementing new things takes time, money, effort and risks and nothing is worse than taking time and effort to implement new things just to see them not utilized. If they aren't utilized the question is the following: 1) They are they less useful than they appear 2) Do people simply don't know about them/they are inconvenient to use If it's the latter than it's a matter of making small changes to make sure people do notice and use the aforementioned useful features. Again, I'm not arguing or fighting for anything in particular. Just having a conversation and a "no" to anything I say isn't taken personal or even warrants an explanation. Thank you for all the work otherwise. It's one of the 5 or so websites I visit on the daily/throughout the day.

For example, I don't know what plug it is, but it's on the Invision board already and it demonstrates the possibility. I can assume it's a native plug or a simple plug Here is a rough draft what USA7's could look like with probably smaller pictures
-
That was intentional. I assume you didn't click my text link? That sort of proves my point. Gallery is a great feature but judging by the views that pictures get it doesn't get used enough, which is a self feeding loop as when people don't browse it, others stop uploading and sharing as well. With that said, the forum is great and everything is very well. I get a notion that there is a small drive to make it "more" and add to it, so these few points were my advice to help reach "next level" sort of speak. Simple works, but simple is also boring and boring doesn't tend to get returning users or much interaction. When we click "activity" and don't see much activity, I'll be most of us move on to other things and don't interact or browse anything else. This is the reason Facebook feed is brilliant. It always finds a way to feed you new information and it also knows that anything that happened more than 3+ days ago, is quite irrelevant unless you're specifically searching for something. Forums don't have an information feeding algorithm. It's entirely user based. A rotating random gallery is something that helps feed new information every time you login that's not directly user driven. Otherwise we are reliant on people asking questions, driving discussions or updating long running threads like Croc does every week with the sales thread.

I hear you. Been there. Somewhat thankless job. Does this software have a lot of plugin support? I can only assume it does. I understand it's custom but it's also plug and play and typically very quick and easily to enable/disable and remove as needed without changing things. You aren't wrong... Put nipples on the headlights of 7 and we might have a compromise.

In my experience humans are visual creatures when browsing online. You can hide a free gift behind a text link and it will easily get overlooked. Words by nature tend to blend into each other and they don't pop out. On my old forum I made "New Posts" in bold and red text because I knew that's one of the most used/useful features for any forum If you make it into a picture however (like a clickable tab in the banner) it gets immediate attention Having something clickable on top for maps will certainly get attention I know that the software is limited and I think I've mentioned it before but to help the gallery get used more, I've also hard a running set of about 8 random small photos from the gallery popup between the header and the forums in rotation.

Thanks! User underutilization of tools available on forums has always been a problem. I'm glad to see the map markers are used often

SDK - Caterham as manufacturer L - left hand drive D - DeDion generation K - Kit built 5 - SV if I recall NS - Engine not supplied (standard for US cats) 5 - 2005 model year 0050457 - manufacturer number @Croc sounds about right?
-
Gladly. Post it up and @Croc is the resident VIN cracker but I can dig up the reference as well

I do remember it being very tight with the ramp. I think we took nose cone off and used wooden planks to help the nose going onto it. Again, not ideal but can do in a pinch if you're careful.* (not sure if all Uhaul trailers are the same either)

Caterham realistic model numbers
Vovchandr replied to Vovchandr's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Right. However even their claimed PS per Tonne is a bit misleading when the industry standard is HP per Ton and the figure looks different after doing the math that they aren't very transparent about. -
Caterham has always been a little optimistic about their model designations such as "360"/"480"/"500"/"620" being eluded to as HP per Ton Two caveats, they round the HP numbers and use a metric Tonne instead of imperial ton and they round down the weight. Lets take for example Caterham 360. Caterham says it makes 182ps, weights 560kg and on their website already updates power to weight as 349 per tonne. PS hp becomes 180. 560KG = .62 of a ton. Simple math converts this to 290 as being a realistic HP per Ton number. Going further through the lineup and information available on the Caterham site now 420 becomes 339 Lastly 620 after doing the math 469. Amusingly this is the math that the website has for it

The Regular Summary of Classified Ads of Se7ens Found For Sale
Vovchandr replied to Croc's topic in Cars For Sale
I have an old Quaife sequential. Honestly makes the car for me. It's rough, loud, clanky and very expensive to fix and I love every minute of it. -
Now that I know that pictures are from an old ad, after all the other red flags I'm 95% convinced it's a scam. Very strange to be using such an obscure car for the scam however.
-
Could go either way. Easiest way to find out whether a scam is to do what you're doing. Ask for more pictures, vin and a picture with the plate with at least the state not edited out, they can keep numbers edited out. If they keep giving you excuses of "I'm not local/I'm not available/I don't have any more pictures and can't get them" etc then more than likely a scam. Escrow sounds slightly unorthodox. Easy way is to find a local enthusiast (not necessarily a 7 owner) and pay them to scope the car out for you before flying out etc. So far has all the checkmarks of a scam. Few pictures without confirming the state, he's magically unreachable in person, wants the money held by a third party etc. Then again, high risk things = high reward, so if it's true it would be a good deal. I flew out to see my car across the country and the previous owner was saying he can't get pictures because he doesn't know how to use a phone and needs somebody's help with it etc. A few other red flags too. All turned out to be real. Had a friend check it out beforehand.

Watch This Before Buying Or Building A Kit Car
-
For me it wouldn't be a factor for a right price. Especially on a car that doesn't get driven in the winter (salt) and otherwise just sitting in the snow isn't any different than sitting in the rain (no salt if it doesn't get driven, just moisture). Main paint looks pretty good, fenders are easily replaceable and carbon doesn't need paint Car overall can be repainted pretty cheap since it has so few panels especially once rear fenders are off. I agree, I'm looking forward to following this along. It's unusual to come across a 7 like this (Copart one is interesting as well)
-
Hah! For that value I'd be ready to offer you to double your money by this weekend no questions asked without knowing where you are in the states One of the greatest parts about these cars is that at the end of the day they are a "kit car" where every part is replaceable, available and it can be assembled by average Joe. Caterham parts can be somewhat hard to deal with so I suggest reaching out to Chris Minecroft(sp?) at Redline. He's to my knowledge biggest second hand supplier of Caterham parts and has been very easy to work with. He often has parts that Caterham might not have in stock. Ideally the frame isn't rotted and it would make everything else rather direct and easy. Hopefully aluminum body panels aren't oxydised and the engine turns. If the tonneau cover was open for a while the interior could use a little love. Leather seats likely suffered and the floor likely held water. Looking forward to getting updated to it's current condition once you get out to see it.
