That goes without saying...but since the new one is roughly double what this guy is asking, I figured that in the high-teens, low 20s was mostly the domain of the cars I mentioned. You don't see many used Westies out there. There is also an XI at wirewheel, but I want the pleasure of skinning my knuckles when I build the car...

I think Magnus out in CA is doing just this...and of course, anyone who ordered a CSR 260.
-
If you're thinking Ultralite, then why not think LS1...or LS7?
-
it's listed over at wirewheel.com... LHD, but RM is not one of the more popular marques over here. A good way to get in to the hobby for not much money, but I'd hold out for an older Cat or go for a Stalker, all things considered.

I've thought about that route, Loren, but am concerned that a supercharger might not fit without frame/sheetmetal alterations.

Hombres, I am definitely OUT for this one... Pour out a glass of non-alcoholic for your homies...

See here for deets: NJ Drive - Sunday Sept 23, 2007
-
Folks, I've been playing with the idea of starting an "ace cafe" type thing at a local garage in my area. The idea is to have semi-regular "drive ins" for various marques, do a bit of driving, and then fool around with slot cars, then eat and go about our day. To see if the idea holds water, I'm going to host the first of these drive-ins on Sunday, Sept 23. The tentative schedule is to meet up at 8:00 AM, leave for a 1.5 hour drive on windy country roads at 8:30. Come back to Frenchtown for some donuts, coffee, and slot car racing. Then eat at place in town for lunch or go on your way. Here is the rendezvous: Race Street Garage, Frenchtown NJ Note that this may not be the actual address, but the intersection is correct. There is a gas station across the street from the garage. All marques (and not just LSiS cars) welcome. The rain date is Sept 30, 2007. Same time and place. ---- Note that I am going to change the meet time to 11:00 AM. No slots, just blatting.

gs-if you don' think a seven with 170 is that quick, I can't imagine what your other cars are.... if you alredy have TBs, the main place to do work is the head and cams. you can get your head decked to up the compression, and ported/flowed to help it breath more. Then of course there are the cams. I don't know what cams you have right now, but my Caterham Superlight uses the Kent Focus 12s, which are fairly aggressive. My recent dyno run is somewhere around here, the car put out 147 at the wheels, on a hot muggy day, and in 4 gear on the Caterham 6, not 6th, which should result in better numbers. I wanted to get a baseline because, though the car is plenty quick for my needs, I'm always interested in what's possible. There are some 220 and 240 normally aspirated Zetecs out there, and I wouldn't mind being one of them. Besides working with a dedicated Seven shop like Rocky Mountain or MSi (though I guess Auto Europe is closest to you), there are always the Focus tuners...I found one in central Pennsylvania that I plan on working with...McNew's Automotive The plans include a Ford Racing Head (CNC milled new stock, with large in and out valves) and some hotter cams, and of course flowing the head a bit. Then some dyno tuning to optimize. That route is about $2500 all in. You could also try the Focus Sport Cosworth head...though they use used heads for that application. Quicksilver down in MD is well known for their Zetec work. Not cheap, though. Finally, if you are feeling truly nutty, consider a stroker block from focus power down in NC..their website seems to be down. This is going to be at least a $5k job, but the good news is that I don't think you'll need to modify your frame or sheetmetal (I think) like you would for a DuraTec conversion.

Skip-That isn't a heater for you, it's an auxilliary cooling system for the engine! I actually don't know how in/effective it is, seeing as my car is not equipped with one. Good thing too, since I've used the fan switch as my radiator fan override switch.-Al

JBH, you should really get yourself that Sevens & Independents book...perhaps the best book for surveying the breadth of LSiS vehicles. For me, it is tough to put into words but I definitely "know one when I see one". I don't if I agree wih the outboard suspension thing, since the CSR now has inboard as does the Rotus and also anyone who has gone with the Freestyle suspension swap. The Prowler and even the Panoz are not lean enough to be consider LSiS vehichles, IMHO. The Prowler is more of an homage to American street rods. To my eye, the Atom is in the vein of the Lotus 340r, and as someone else mentioned, the Ducati Monster.

All I can say is that I/we owe Steve Taylor a beer....or three. Great write up on 7-7-7 and a wide variety of pix, I think the piece takes up 5 full pages of the issue....not to mention the cake on the cover! Thanks again Steve! (Though you do refer to me as an "erstwhile" Superlight owner...I still have the car, you know!) :jester: Actually going to go get my mileage inspection again now...forgot one form last time.

FWIW, I saw a Stalker for sale up at Lime Rock whose interior would have shamed the Caterham demo car I test drove at a dealership that shall go unnamed. I think the guy wanted like $19k all in. Having tried to keep up with Paul W's Stalker in my Superlight down at the Dragon...that's a hell of a buy. Of course, Paul was running DOT slicks while the rest of us were making do with mostly treaded tires....

If Mazda can make an LS1 work, I don't see why a VR6 won't....

We actually have a few Se7en enthusiasts who are younger than you Roman... Here's one: http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1406273792_Se7ens at LRP Vintage - 02.jpg

You haven't met Paul, Dino, and Seth yet...have you? The best part is that I bet some of our owners/forum members in their 60s and 70s can SPANK many of us when it comes to driving. If you can stand hanging around with some of "old" 30, 40, and 50 somethings, there are quite a few of us in the PA/NJ area, stay posted for group drive announcements, etc. BTW, what is the name of your company? I used to have an MTM Stage 2 Avant (as well as a VR6 GTI) and my bro had the g60 Corrado back in the day.

Shoot, I should have loaned him my aeroscreen before shipping it out to Drew!

And of course, there are the Gallatin, the Madison, and the Slough.... Hmm, blatting in the AM, fly fishing in the PM....or vice versa...and some National Parks action. We'll have to add it to the short list of future sites.

What day will the group have 700 members (Changed from 500)
Al N. replied to MHKflyer52's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Martin...could happen sooner than you think at this rate. Remember when there were like, 100 members? -
To confirm...Standard cat tank has 2 baffles about 6 - 8 inches in from the sides of the tank. I took out the pump and sender from my old tank and looked around. -Al

regarding the wind wings...I've seen guys put a little rubber bumper on the scuttle to absorb any vibration/imact of the perspex wind wing deal.

Black Hills Route I did a little surfing today and have to say that Sturgis as a host city holds little to no appeal to me. I can't imagine the wear and tear a big bike rally would put on hotels...and yes, I'm generalizing, but one site I visited had tips on how to navigate through town after you've been drinking. Not my idea of a family-friendly destination. That said, Rapid City SD to the South looks like it could have some potential. Rapid City, SD Convention & Visitors Bureau It's only 25 hours from my house! I maybe we make this a mid-week meet...so people can take off a week and use the shoulder weekends to get to and from the meet. ---- Keep in mind that the Ozarks region has also been proposed as a future national scale meet.

Anyone read the latest Grassroots Motorsports? 7 vs Atom...
Al N. replied to sporqster's topic in General Sevens Discussion
My car maybe the fastest, but it's owner certainly isn't!:jester: I have seen some very fast Se7ens on the road over the past two years...Mazda's car and a Stalker driven by Paul W stick out as two of the quicker car/driver combos I've tried to keep up with. And Scott L. certainly isn't slow. And from what the PNW 2007 folks say, Ed Hudson's car is no slouch... Like I said, it would be fun to have a hillclimb/time attack at the next national. -

Al N. replied to sporqster's topic in General Sevens Discussion
In response to AtomFest...I don't think we even know inside the community whose car has the most performance. That is something we should sort out...and I'd even say that we should get one driver (someone like Keith or John M.) to do a time attack/hillclimb sort of challenge at our next national meet. Unless we have access to an auto-X that has some wide open bits, the cars with a lot of top end won't do very well. That said, even within marques (and models!), everyone's car is so different that it's tough to generalize. For example, Ed Hudson, Scott Lentz, and I all have Caterham Superlights...but we all have different motors. JBH and I have cars that are very similar, but he's running 13" and I'm running 15", so there will be a difference in our final ratios and ultimate top speeds.
