  1. Mike & Tom, Thanks to you both for putting on the event, and for the joyrides. Your cars are fantastic. I hope to drive my own there next year. It was great to see old members and put faces to ones I had not met before. Everyone had a blast. Those who can should put this event on the list for next year. Dermot.
  2. Roman, Ditto from me. Very kind of you to offer but I found a room as Mike said. I was surprised so many hotels were full. I do not remember Millville being so exciting a town as to attract so many tourists for the holiday weekend. Looking forward to seeing everyone, Dermot
  3. I decided too late to come up Saturday to get a room. All hotels I tried were booked. Does anyone want to share a room for Saturday night. Mea Culpa. Dermot.
  4. I ran a Hayabusa engined car for a while and loved it. I hope to build another. I adapted the bikes fuel pump and integeral filter to my fuel tank and considered the possibility of fuel starvation in high G turns. As it turned out it was not a problem (I am a slow old fart!), but while adapting the tank I allowed for the possibility of putting a swinging pickup in the tank that would follow the fuel in high G turns. If you look at the fuel tanks of radio controlled aircraft you will see what I mean. I agree with "coffee break" in that surge tanks are definitely worth exploring. I think I know of your car, I bought a spare crankshaft off the previous owner (if I am correct). He was pretty successful at tracks in Texas. You might want to talk to him. Your problem might be more related to an existing problem rather than an inherent design issue. I am a great believer in the KISS principle and the fewer links you have in the chain, the stronger the chain will be. Food for thought. Good luck.
  5. I tried at 2 different times to pay for track access and the Saturday night BBQ but I get a note saying "A network error has occourred. Please try again". I sent the registration company a note advising them of this and hopefully they will correct it but I wanted to let people know to keep trying and contact the company if you cannot register. (The squeaky wheel gets the grease"). Looking forward to seeing everyone next weekend, Cheers, Dermot.
  6. I do not check the site as much as I once did and just learned of your accident. We ran at NJMP together a number of years ago. I too want to voice my support and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Having put my wife through the ringer more than once as a result of an "exuberant lifestyle" I empathize with both of you. Stay strong together and remember you will have more interesting stories to tell your grandkids. Get well soon and listen to your physiotherapist. Dermot.(Ottocycle). Fury Hayabusa (RIP)
  7. I am hoping to attend to spectate. (Although having trashed my car, I think I will feel like a eunoch in a whorehouse!!). I will bring my helmet and hopefully be able to mooch a passenger seat ride. If anyone needs a crew person please let me know. I have not booked a room for Saturday night, Does anyone want to share a room? I know I should have found it but how do I register? (i am an idiot with computers). Thanks, Dermot.
  8. Beautiful. Where did you get the wing mirrors? They look like they work !!! Thanks.
  9. I recall reading a letter in an English classic car magazine many years ago from a guy who overhauled his engine (i believe it was an early Morris Minor) and found one of its pistons was made of oak!!! Apparently some impecunious previous owner turned a piston and the end grain charred to a point where it would mot burn any more and the car ran for who knows how many years before this guy rebuilt it. I have no idea how ( or if ) he dealt with rings and compression. Strains credulity, but having owned a few in my youth they are like an English VW Bug and thrive on abuse and neglect. This was before the urban myths were so trendy. Go figure.
  10. Paul, No, its not too personal. I had a mechanical brake failure at a track day. The "wrist pin" on my brake pedal backed out (a one in a million+ happening). I totaled the car, broke 4 ribs, cracked my pelvis (wallet), and scared the hell out of my wife. She is a wonderful girl, and will be reluctantly supportive of my going back. She needed a little time to get there. Lesson: Safety wire everything brake related. I would never have thought the circlip that holds the pin in place would move.
  11. Thanks guys for the help. To be honest I am not sure what I want . My preference is for the minimalist S1 cars although I can see the "plus" side of a +2. ( I am a big bugger). The money side will probably make the decision. Mike, I apperciate the leads. I am still looking. I am doing well. Bones and wallet healed from last "faux pas". I am hoping the wife will have healed by spring. I want to play with you guys again at NJMP if you are doing a June event. I can watch you streak by. Are you heading to OZ for Xmas? Cheers- Dermot. Seasons Greetings to everyone.
  12. Yes, thank you. I am thinking there are a number of forgotten/abandoned restorations taking up garage space around the country and thought someone here might be able to connect me.
  13. I realize this is not a seven but I think it qualifies as a LSIS. Apologies if I offend anyone. I may have left it too late, but before I get too old and fat to have one, I would like to find a Lotus Elan. I will consider anything from a parts car to a driver. A pristine show car would be wasted on me, I want to drive one. I think a number of our members are prior/current owners and if you have or know of one please let me know. I may also need Elan parts, depending on what I find, so if you have any spares or Elan printed matter please PM me. Thanks. Dermot
  14. Thanks to Crankey for bringing up the subject and to Croc for his insights. I had a prang at a HPDE event (Willwood brake pedal failure) that ended up costing me about $50K as my Hagerty insurance did not cover track events. Is there a HPDE insurance that covers medical expenses as well as car costs? To be honest the medical side of the equation is more important to me than the car. The car is cheaper to repair than I am. I want to get out to play again next year but I would want to get coverage for injury in the event of an accident. I think we all accept the risk of damaging our cars when we put them on the track, but I never thought seriously about the cost of personal injury. My medical insurance only covered a pittance and I now have to find an alternative carrier. Any tips on where to look? Is a track injury looked upon as a "sporting injury"? What should one look for when looking for health insurance that will cover trackdays? I think this is a subject that many members of this forum would benefit from. If anyone has any input I am sure I am not the only one who would be interested in hearing from you. Hopefully I will be out with you all at NJMP next summer. Cheers_ Dermot.
  15. I am interested in a car in Lodi, California but I live outside Washington, DC. Is there anyone who lives near there who would check it for me? Also, does anyone know of a way to protect both buyer and seller in a long distance car purchase. Is there a way to escrow funds to ensure the car is delivered to a shipper. I understand a vehicles condition is debatable but can both parties be protected in ensuring the vehicle is delivered (and actually exists!!). Mazda, I hope this is the proper location for this kind of request, if not please feel free to relocate or delete it. Thanks, Dermot.
  16. Hello all, There is no polite way to put this…I am f***in mad jealous of you all. I will miss both the track and the comraderie. Have a wonderful safe time and I hope to join you next year. I hope to have a new car by then and a calmer wife (a better deal than a new wife and a calmer car). Be safe and have fun. Cheers- Dermot.
  17. I have been out of touch for a while but saw the post today. For all the Anglophiles out there I got "DGSBOLX" for my Jag C type replica, I could not believe they gave it to me. Dermot
  18. "Dingo", Thanks for the advice. I am sorry for not sending you photos of the Mallock before. Here are a few I found, but I lost a bunch during a data transfer when I changed my computer.Mallocks are great cars. Cheers, Dermot. /Users/dermot/Desktop/100_1643.JPG/Users/dermot/Desktop/100_1644.JPG/Users/dermot/Desktop/100_1645.JPG
  19. Paul, Thanks for the advice. I spoke with Dave Bean and he told me rebuild kits are not available and the servos he sells are not originals and have to be adapted to fit. So when I consider $700+ of parts that still need to be adapted I think I will keep the bad servos (perhaps someone will tool up for rebuild parts at a later date). I am thinking of a smaller master cylinder, pads and braided lines. My car is an original 25,000 miles unmodified model that I intend to keep as original as makes financial sense. It is very clean and deserves to be kept that way. I just bought it. It has been sitting in a garage, started regularly, for 15 years. The brake pedal is on the floor and the whole car needs a good going through. I intend to replace all fluids and rubber hoses. I have no problem with reversable upgrades in the name of reliability and "drivability" but she is too nice a car to modify. It needs tires, any suggestions? I do not want the head for the Europa, it is for another project. Cheers, Dermot.
  20. Thanks guys for the feedback. While not directly seven related I figured I would find some experienced owners here. DavidL, i will look for the greenstuff pads and an S2 master cylinder. Any other suggestions from anyone regarding making the Europa more enjoyable/reliable. Cheers, Dermot.
  21. Hello all, I am looking for a deal on a Weber head if anyone has or knows of one. Also, I know there are a number of past Europa owners here and would like to know if anyone has experience with bypassing the brake servos. My Europa Special has bad servos, originals are unavailable and adaptable units are $350+ each. I find it hard to believe a 1500# car NEEDS servos. Has anyone got experience with changing the master cylinder, what size did you use and how did it feel? Thanks.
  22. You should mention to your friend to check some of the English suppliers. Last year I saw an add in the UK where someone (I cannot remember the business) was selling new complete Zetecs with electronics and induction for reasonable money. Getting a motor in the UK will save him shipping and import duties. He should check some of the UK 7 groups for leads. My 2 cents worth. Good luck.
  23. Mike, I sent you a PM but I am not sure if it went through (it has not come up in my "sent messages" file. I have no contact info for Scott, Michael D probably does. I will attend NJMP in June. Does anyone want to share a room in the Marriot? Dermot.
  24. I run stock clutch plates and heavy duty springs with no problem. I weigh in at about 1350lbs. all in. Dermot.
