If it is an oil leak and you do have the rope seal, you can upgrade to the neoprene as lowflyer mentioned. My 1600(1982 production) has the neoprene seal.

This was a great breakfast and I finally met a few of the other great 7 owners. Thanks to Mazda for setting this up--hopefully the radiator fits your car. Thanks to Bob for offering to help me sort out the last few items to get my car on the road. Scott--thanks for sharing the big splash story--we are gald you went home to take a shower!! Mike--thank you for the radiator--looks like it will be a real challenge to use it since the radiator support on my car is so different but "we" 7 owners are quite creative!! Hope to do this again real soon, Sal

Rusty, If you cant find the 040, I have a new set of 090 with rings and pins. CR is 10 to 1. let me know if you're interested. And yes, you can have them cheap.

Hi Rusty, Right now, slngsht has first right of refusal. Since we live relatively close to each other, we are planning a fit check on his car. If it is a no-go, I will let you know right away and we can talk. What i didnt mention in the add is that it comes with the temperature sensor (to fit in the upper right side hole) and the matching aluminum overflow tank. I will keep you posted--give us a week or so.

For sale is a full core radiator that measures 20" wide X 14.75" tall, and 3" thick. It has the two pins that protrude out the bottom on 18" spacing to fit the typical Caterham frame. Made by Griffin for my Xflow. It was in the boxes of parts when i bought my car and don't need it. The fiting in the upper RH cornor is for the temperature switch to turn on the electric fan. It has never been mounted and you can see it is new and undamaged. This radiator is around 450 new and it's just taking up space. I know someone needs a great deal to get there car on the road. I will carefully package and ship to you at my cost. If interested, please contact me at fnmag58@aol.com. Thanks as I prefer to sell to a fellow 7 owner and not go the e-bay route. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/734107445_rad1.jpghttp://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1390538180_rad2.jpghttp://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/442361925_rad3.jpghttp://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1060361536_rad4.jpghttp://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1152237626_rad5.jpg

Gas Mileage, Tell us how your 7 does on the MPG's

In a Se7en, I thought MPG stood for Millions of Positive Grins? -
unless I'm mistaken, the relay doesn't know if it is running the left or the right turn signals. If the bulbs are good, I would start checking the grounds--a high resistance ground will result in the problem you indicated. Also make sure you have the exact same bulbs for each side--there are a lot of bulbs that use the same sockets but the wattage is different resulting in diffent amperage draws. I had a similar situation recently and after correcting the high resistance gound, I decided to replace the relay. My 1982 uses a Triumph relay that i bought from Moss Motors. Can't find the paperwork right now, but if you need I will look it up for you.

Took me longer than expected but here is a picture of the rims: http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1882770963_LH side view.jpghttp://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1128866834_LF Tire.jpg I like the overall quality in both fit and finish. Many positive comments by other "car crazy" folks

now if we can lock in all of their IP's, we can spam them back!

They're stealing our super 7 super secrets! Probably trying to copy everything--watch our for the paint--probably leaded!! Wonder how they will handle the speeds--seems their tires let go around 75 mph(maybe i should convert to KPH for them).
-
and there are a lot of great folks that keep you motivated!
-
Forgot to mention that Bob Drye did an awesome job of mounting the new tires and rims for me to have them in time for this show. No scrathes!!! Lots of great comments about them--THANKS BOB!!!! Pictures soon!!

I took the 7 to the car show in downtown Fredericksburg, VA yesterday. It was judged against, MG's, Austin Healy's,etc and ended up taking 2nd place. It was a huge draw since few people had ever seen one. Yes, I got the "Is this a kit car?" question along with the "Can you drive it on the steet?" You just smile and try to educate them as best as you can. Several folks from the UK knew what it was right away and tolds stories of owning one. Even had one gent that raced one on weekends. Talking to fellow "RKI's" is cool.

Thanks to all of you for the kind words. I hope to join you for a blat sometime soon. Bruce, It's got the factory twin DCOE 40 Webers with the original air filters. I guess I'm somewhat of a purist as I like to return everything to the original factory delivered vehicle. Being RHD should prove to be interesting around here. Northern VA traffic is a nightmire! Car is fully documented from the initial contact at Caterham in the UK until it was delivered into the US. Driven daily back then and has 98,700 miles on the odometer--that might be a record! The only thing i dont have is a set of seatbelts. Would like to go to 5 point but Caterham did not add in the attachment points over your shoulder in the middle of the car. I am building a 1700 Super Sprint engine now and hope to have it completed in a couple months. I also have the cycle fenders for it.

The smile was big, the feeling you get inside is impossible to describe. I does take a lot of will-power and determination when you run into problems. Keeping the faith that it will be finally assembled helps a lot. And of course, the encouragement from the members of this group go a long way. Sal

Well after 2 long years and hundreds of hours of work, my 1982 Series 3 moved under its' own power today. Last time this car saw the road was in the mid 1990's when its previous owner started to rebuild/restore it. So here is its first photo. Now for a few more minor parts then off the VDOT to get the plates. The Superlight rims and tires are being mounted and will be on this week!! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/241047912_DSCN0543.JPG

Guess that ended her modeling career! Did the watering can take the worst part of the fall?
-
Does anyone know where I can obtain a replacement radiator for a Series 3? No radiator repair shops in this area and mine has sprung a leak--even a good used one is fine for me if someone out there has one. I could call Caterham but it will probably break the bank for me--not that they are expensive but i just dont have the funds right now. Thanks to all! This is the last thing I need to put her on the road.

I'll post a picture as soon as I can. I purchased them from Mr. Bennett French at The British Connection. He has in interesting set-up. The common rims are in stock but he also has blanks. In my case, he took the blanks and CNC'd the PCD I needed. I could not find 13 x 7 with the 4 x 95.25 PCD (Ital Live Axle) so he made them! I bought 4 rims with center caps, lug nuts, and shipping for about $775. I really wanted the Minilites but at slightly over 1000 it was just to much for me. BTW, he can be reached at: thebritishconnection@yahoo.com

Hey Bob--I'll be by in the morning to pick up the light bulbs--I'll also bring the wheel and tire so we can figure this out. I did read the yokohama article and it does match up to what I have--Yokohama AVAN-032R. Guess you and I will have some fun with this one. Jon--great find on the article--thanks! My rims dont have any marks(red) so it looks like i'll use the yellow weighted method. Can't thank both of you enough.
-
So here is an interesting question: I've been told the colored dot that is painted on new tires should align with the valve stem. Supposedly this will reduce the total weight you need to balance the assembly. I've also read that the paint is for match mounting. As I have 4 new rims and tires, I'd like to do it right the first time. Any help or insight is appreciated.
-
The new Superlites arrived and did the rim only check-fit, all looks well. Tomorrow, I'll mount one of the tires and perform the final clearance check before I mount all four. Thanks for all the help!

Bob, This is great news--how do I find you? Seems like I'm always driving up to DCA and can stop on the way or whenever it's convenient for you. Thanks--Sal
