well, on the subject of personal safety, there are 2 factors: 1- is the chassis stiff enough 2- does it absorb energy If you get T-boned in a 7, there is nothing to absorb the energy. Don't do that http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrinjester.gif I believe the frame is quite stiff though. I remember seeing pics of a Seven wreck quite badly, end up over the tire wall, etc..., and the passengers were fine, and the car looked remarkably intact. But that was with a full roll cage. The size difference between an SV and a regular sized Caterham (Kate-erham) is noticable in how you fit in the car, but I don't think it makes a difference in how safe the car is. It's not THAT significant. At least in one way the seven is safer than most other cars on the road. It stops, turns and changes direction very quickly, and can fit through holes other cars can't http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif. Lastly, other motorists hear me coming before they see me http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif. I've put about 6000 miles on this year, and have had two occasions where a cell phone swinging beltway bandit decided they needed my lane more than me. In a typical highway lane there is ALOT of room for avoidance in a Seven. The way to look at this car is that it is not as safe as a regular car, but it is safer than a motorcycle. That's how I justify it for myself.

Michael, what does the D Mod / E Mod landscape look like currently? What else runs in these classes?

North Carolina area.

Welcome aboard! It all depends. Some of us get these cars because they are fun to "fiddle" with them http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smile5.gif Believe me, working on a seven is alot more pleasurable than a normal production car. Everything is easy to understand, simple to get to, etc... It also depends on what your drivetrain is based on. In my case, it's a standard GM engine and gear box, so not much fiddlin is required there. But my car is old in general, so I work on other areas. It is true that in general, a Seven is not going to be as reliable (nor as boring, nor as practical) as a Corolla.

So, tell us a little about yourselves

Welcome aboard. Probably the only good thing about a cold long winter is that you know you won't be able to drive the car, so you can work on it. Around here, it could be 30 degrees one day, and 60 the next, so you always have that nagging feeling that if you take too much apart, you might miss a precious driving day. Good luck, and keep the pics coming as you make progress. -
That happened with my clamshells too. I routinely pick little rocks out of my hair later in the day.

Forum member Catie can comment on this, but clamshells have problems with high speed aerodynamics - in case you race...

I will find out how much the brake option will be. It does not impact the general design of the trailer, so I think it can be done as an extra.
-
If I had a F350, I could toss the Seven in the bed http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrinjester.gif

I think for a relatively small open trailer, brakes are not necessary. For an enclosed trailer, they are. I've towed 4000 lb boats for quite a few years, without brakes, with no problems. You just have to drive more defensively, give more room, etc... That could be one of the additional cost options we can look into.

welcome aboard... there are several ways. You can search for him from the top menu, or in the "Other" menu item, go to member listing, and find him there. Here's a link to his profile: >http://www.usa7s.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=97 Click on PM or Email buttons to get in touch with him. I'm sure he will see your post and chime in http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/cheers2.gif

Here's a pic of my cycle fender. Not mounted yet. http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/slngsht/CIMG1070.JPG Moving this to the general section....
-
first, locostv8 on this forum is looking for a set of clamshells for his locost build. I'm in the process of changing right now. What are you going to do with the holes left behind from your old fenders? I have a Rotus, so I'm not sure if your fenders are attached the same way, but I imagine they're bolted to the body at several places. The only con I see is that it increases the chance of someone touching my exhaust. Are you buying a kit to do this? The common problem with cycle fenders is making sure the mounting is stiff. I bought a set of aluminum fenders from Coveland. They sell Aluminum or fiberglass. They can custom make the aluminum ones to whatever your specs are.

Interest in group purchase for trailers?

I'll use the number of votes here to try and get some pricing. I'd like to stick to one base design, and perhaps some "upgrades".
-
OK. I'm going to lock this up and start a poll, to keep count of interested folks, and see if I can merge these together...
-
That's what I need it for http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smile5.gif

I gave Dennis a call (he used to work for Rotus). He will have very reasonable prices if we come up with some sort of standard design. Are you guys looking for full enclosed trailers? I prefer a flat trailer that can be enclosed (just at car height, not full height) to save on cost and weight. And I'm thinking WAY below $5K. Below 2K would be nice.
-
anyone interested? My requirement would be: Smaller and lighter than typical car trailer (Seven sized). Room for some extra stuff (a set tires, or tool rack) Convertible http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/lol.gif I want the lightness of an open trailer, but some sort of contraption to properly "enclose" it for rainy trips. Toss in your ideas if interested. I'll talk to a couple of fabricators. -Mazda

I just read that entire thread on blat chat... he'll be in the 9's for sure. Amazing.

Awesome pass http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/lol.gif I'm thinking I have 10 second runs in my car, but I haven't been to the track with it yet. I only have a 2 point roll bar http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/nonod.gif

Sal, the forum messes up big pics... here's a link to your pic >http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/20061025_155233_dash_view.jpg This problem will be resolved in a few weeks when we upgrade the software.

I think there is a company in Maryland named Quicksilver that does some work for the local Zetec guys here. Their number is 301-698-9009. Here is a link to one of their ads >http://www.apexspeed.com/advertisers/quicksilver/ I have never personally used them. Let us know who you end up with.

With the black top and the black headlights, it looks like I'm looking over Mickey's head http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/rofl.gif Vid looks good. Have you tried the remote mic?
