I already sent John a message to finalize the starting point at white post. I'll try to get us some coffee and donuts for breakfast.

Hi there. Welcome aboard. I started this forum just to share things with other 7 owners. Most here are Rotus owners because that's what we started with, but all are welcome. I had initially set up different sections for Caterhams, Locosts, etc..., but there are just not enough 7 owners. If it catches on, that's a possiblity. Looking forward to pics of your car. Cheers, Mazda

Welcome aboard Al. I've looked at the calendar. Two dates that work are: Primary Date: May 20/21 Rain Date: June 3/4slngsht38734.4463773148

I have to agree. Mine might be worse than the later designs. I'd do better just reaching over the windshield and wiping it manually smileys/smiley36.gif[/img]

I had to drive mine in the rain for about 10 minutes. It was an adventure.

Where did you get your switches? Mine has the cheap radioshack specials...

Looks like at least 6 or 7 Caterham owners are interested in meeting up for a cruise. I started a post in the SouthEast section for it.
-
Autocrossing and cruising (and maybe the occasional track test and tune session) is all I plan for mine too.
-
Nice attention to detail. It'll be a while before my car is done that nicely. How many miles a year do you put on it?

THE LATEST ITINERARY ON SEVENS AT SKYLINE IS IN THIS DOCUMENT: > http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/slngsht/sevens_at_skyline .doc slngsht38863.6201736111

This one is apparently still for sale.

Hi all, I asked on another Seven list, and there is at least some interest in doing a mid/late spring cruise (either 1 day, or a weekend) through Skyline drive in VA. Post here if you are interested in attending. Since most of the local Caterham population here are serious Autocrossers, those weekends are already taken. I'll keep this post up to date with latest plans. Hopefully we can pull this off annually.

Red Baron, My six year old son saw the "7" in your grill... Apparently we're doing a father / son project to put one together for my car

Yes. I plan on using either Reflectix, or Frost King. Both are thin, light insulation materials. Frost Kings is used for duct insulation. C5 Corvettes have a center tunnel heat problem because the exhaust is routed through that area. Many owners have reduced cabin heat using this stuff. They are much lighter than many of the commercial sound/heat insulation stuff available for cars.

What would you change about your Rotus?
slngsht replied to solder_guy's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I 2nd that opinion about legroom. A dead pedal would've been nice. Joe, a while back i saw a pedal design that combined the throttle and brake into one assembly, so in essence you end up with 2 pedals (one being the clutch). The design had a pivot near the heel. pushing in your heel would put on the brakes, and rolling your ankle (pushing your toe relative to the heel) would press the gas. I practiced the motion a little bit, and it seemed pretty natural. -

I'm pretty happy with mine so far, eventhough I wish it was in better shape... All in due time. IRS would've been nice, but the existing multilink setup isn't bad either. Whatever I don't like is being worked on slowly. It would've been nice if the company were thriving today. -
Well, after alot of debate, I finally decided to go with a LS1. My car came with a 215, with a mild cam, offy intake. It had decent acceleration, but nothing that would knock your socks off. Seat of the pants feel was may be as fast as my vette, perhaps a little slower. I was in the process of gathering parts to upgrade to a 4.6 Rover, but after much back and forth thinking and cost comparisons, I decided to go with LS1. I think this will add 100 lbs to the weight of the car. The engine has 350 hp/ 350 ft.lbs from the factory. with the free flowing intake and exhaust, my guess is I'll have another 20 on top of that. If I ever need more, there are zillions of vendors for the LS1. So, I bought a LS1 and 6 speed tranny, and off we went. At this point, I'm thinking there is NO WAY this hunk of metal will fit in that car. The shiny spots near the end of the tranny are places where casting tabs were ground off: http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/slngsht/2006-01-08_190354_CIMG0203_Medium.JPG Surprisingly, the engine fit without a problem (tranny a different story). The engine will be lower - engine mounts are still being fabricated. http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/slngsht/2006-01-08_190539_CIMG0212_Medium.JPG This picture shows the cross member under the transmission. It had to be cut. Apparently most of the later cars don't even have this cross member. It will be reshaped and welded back in place. http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/slngsht/2006-01-08_190710_CIMG0218_Medium.JPG The side members had to also be modified to fit the tranny. they were carved, and re-enforced in place. http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/slngsht/2006-01-08_191131_CIMG0217_Medium.JPG

It's definitely a clean look. I assume to cut the opennings, you started out by drilling a hole, and started cutting from there? What tool did you use to cut?
-
Is your hood louvered? I will have to either get a new hood, or put a hood scoop on. My current hood has a hole in the middle for the exposed air cleaner, but the new engine has the filter in the front. I have to look into a solution to get cold air in, rather than the air coming out of the radiator. Great pics as usual smileys/smiley32.gif[/img]

-
That's a great solution. Thanks for the pics. I experienced the "cooked foot" a few months ago, stuck in traffic on a 90 degree day. Cheers

I noticed that about the rear bottom cover. Mine is riveted as well. Joe, what rear ratio did you decide to go with? I know you had something super high in your car. Also, are you aware of any suppliers that make anything lower than a 4.10?
-
not sure. I don't recall if yours was the same. But I did talk to dennis, and he said the later cars have a 6 piece design. There are 2 panels for each side (front panel and back panel)
-
On mine, the center tunnel is covered by 3 aluminum sheets, each attached to the sides and top of the center tunnel by a bunch of self tapping screws. Are the later cars the same way? For the Locost, they have one sheet folded over twice to form the tunnel sheet. Looks much cleaner. I guess alot of people have carpet over it, so it doesn't matter.
-
You'll have alot of cleaning to do. I did not look at your car in detail (I only had 5 minutes there), but I didn't see any evidence of rust or anything. Cheers.
