  1. If you're going to give him/her rides on a regular basis, I'd say go with the miata. I started giving my older son rides in the seven when he turned... well... seven . He always wears a bike helmet in the car - mostly because the wind would bother him too much otherwise. I'm not sure if a bike helmet is actually safer for them, because even though it helps protect their heads, I'm sure the extra weight really strains their necks.
  2. do you have a $ figure in mind? that might play a role in it. dry sumps aren't cheap
  3. Mandurath, I periodically resize all the pics. Obviously not frequently enough. For some posts, a high res pic would be nice. I'll keep resizing.
  4. At 3:51 in the morning they're all fast  usa7s.com is the same host we've always had. try this link http://usa7s.net/aspnetforum/default.aspx for some reason the dns for www is not working.
  5. It's possible the domain name has not propagated yet. Might have to wait till the morning.
  6. another idea I'm toying with is blocking site access to Russia, China, etc... Invariably, I look at the admin pages, and the site is being hit by 50-60 sessions from one IP address. When I look it up, traffic originates from those 2 countries
  7. well, I have been working on this thing... those of you who would like to test... take a look at this site: http://www.usa7s.net/aspnetforum/default.aspx THAT SITE IS NOT UP TO DATE, AND WILL GET WIPED BEFORE THE ACTUAL TRANSITION. It's just so a few of us can compare page load speeds. Try comparing pages without pictures, as that site doesn't yet have the latest uploads from the production site.
  8. Well, it's the per month hosting that's expensive... give me a couple of days. I think the new solution will be pretty good.
  9. Yup, the tires are past old...
  10. It's entirely possible the forum software is poorly written, but given the size of our forum, I doubt it. Also, the General section (the page that lists the topics, is just over 200 KB when downloaded, so it's pretty small). When I get the new site up, I will post a link here for direct side by side comparisons. That will tell us for sure. The problem we have is that we are not big enough for dedicated hosting (our own web servers). So we are on a shared box with possibly hundreds of other applications, so it depends on how responsible (or irresponsible) our hosting provider is about making sure the sites don't slow down. Stay tuned....
  11. All I need to know... I'll try the new place and see how it goes
  12. well, aren't we a fun bunch
  13. When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I take her someplace expensive. I took her to a gas station. And that's how the fight started.... **************************************** ********** I tried to talk my wife into buying a case of Miller Light for $14.95. Instead, she bought a jar of cold cream for $7.95. I told her the beer would make her look better at night than the cold cream. And that's how the fight started... **************************************** ********** After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later. The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application. When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability, too'. And that's how the fight started..... **************************************** ********** My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table. My wife asked, 'Do you know her?' 'Yes,' I sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.' 'My Gosh!' says my wife, 'Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?' And that's how the fight started..... **************************************** ********** I rear-ended a car this morning. So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get so stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it.... he was a DWARF!!! He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, 'I AM NOT HAPPY!!!' So, I looked down at him and said, 'Well, then which one are you?' And that's how the fight started..... **************************************** ********** I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first. 'I'll have the strip steak, medium rare, please.' He said, 'Aren't you worried about the mad cow?' 'Nah, she can order for herself.' And that's how the fight started.....
  14. I know sometimes it takes a long time to load for me, and Skip has mentioned that a few times too. I'm looking at another hosting provider since our contract is up in December. I'll let you guys know how it goes... anyone else have speed issues with the site in general?
  15. Looks like a washout... and I forgot about my son's football. I'm one of the coaches :willy:
  16. post 'em up http://blog.al.com/breaking/2007/10/pumpkin.jpg

  18. we do need some parts cars to bring up the rear :jester: kidding of course, the more the merrier.
  19. Tom carries those to the events for his passengers
  20. Kevin, I'm up for this if the sun is out and roads are dry. I still have to put sides on my car . As I had indicated in the Cumberland Autox thread, wifey is working and I'll have to secure babysitting. I think my nephew will watch the kids and meet us at Half Price burgers, and then he'll drive the car in the afternoon with you guys on the way back.
  21.
  22. You could always post a link here
  23. I'd have to agree :yesnod:
  24. I would totally bring my 9 year old. If I bring my 6 year old, a lot of competitors might end up with flat tires though.
