Look out for the Caterhams racings at Knockhill in the sidebar next to the main vid. That is some real wheel to wheel action - literally as it turns out.

The Rocket box replaced the Bullit box I think - both were 4 speed close ratio used in performance Ford's in Europe. Bullit was in Lotus Cortina and early Escort RS models, Rocket was in the later RS Escorts (I had an RS 2000 - late 70's model). Both were (are if looked after) great gearboxes. It should be all Imperial bolts, but any later additions or upgrades may result in a few metric bolts. Steve.

As I'm probably driving down in the 7, I was thinking of not going down 81. Maybe take 29 South from Charlottesville to Greensboro, then 40 West to Asheville (or 85 from Greensboro to Charlotte - maybe overnite there as I have relatives in town - then 85 back to 40). Local roads from Asheville to Tapoco. Probably take longer, but 81 is one of my least favorite roads on the planet.

I'm interested. Plus I'm in Charlottesville. Have a couple of spare beds in the basement, and one space in the garage if anyone needs a stop over. Don't think I'm booked in for Thursday, but will try to put that right. I'm about 25 mins from GT Classics - happy to talk to Chip about a group visit if folks are interested. Steve.

That might be the first vid I've seen of someone running on the track with the roof up. Cuts down the buffeting though, so good sound quality.

Was that Mike Muckle? He used to have a Lotus 7 and a Caterham. Sold the Caterham I think and got a Radical.

I'm just back from taking a lady out for a passenger ride in the seven she won in a charity auction. Hi Mutt, I think I have my original Caterham build video somewhere - it's mid 90's vintage but might be of use. It's also a PAL VHS i.e. UK version. I could get a mate to transfer it to NTSC, maybe even DVD, but there would be a cost involved. Any use? Steve.

Welcome Robert. A guy from the ozclubbies site contacted me a couple of years ago - he makes frequent biz trips to North Carolina. He came to stay for a weekend and we had a couple of blats in my 7. Now he's threatening to arrange a visit for July next year so he can pop over to the Tail of the Dragon do. Good man. Fyi; I did the 'Outback Car Trek' in 2005 - Esperence to Alice Springs - huge fun. My old mate in Sydney (and fellow pom - do not mention the criket!) does it every year. I'm thinking of doing it again next year.

I remember a few years back, a guy here bought a used Caterham in England, took it apart, then shipped the parts (incl. engine and gearbox) here. He then rebuilt it. I think he was from Michigan, but can't remeber his name. Not sure you can still do that.

40 is too high. I'm at 20 psi on 14" rims (recommended by Caterham). Folks with the same tire/wheel set up as mine recommend anything from 15 to 20 psi.

I remember this topic coming up on Blatchat from time to time (and when it did it ran, and ran, as you would expect). The majority vote last time I looked was for the 'humble' 1.6 superlight (140 bhp) as it was seen to have the best power/price/handling mix. But that was before the R300/400 and the new CRS models.

XR4 was rear wheel drive. Later there was an XR4X4, and later still, a Cosworth 4X4 (which was my last Cossie in the UK - very fine motor).

I liked the one with the new Range Rover (Sport?) versus the Chieften Tank. Classic.

Great pics. Like your sign off line BTW. I used something very similar years ago for an ad headline... "Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a damn good time" This for a guy who was starting a biz for exec excitement (no, not that sort) built around off roading and flights in Bi planes. Went very well as I recall.
